running deer

took my dog out last night. shes like 14 months old and i aint hunted her much but she has been doing real good everytime i took her huntin, anyway last night she split treed for the first time, and the very next drop she started running deer for the first time. i called her off n put her in the box and scolded her but i didnt want to get to bad with her cuz she did split tree, but i dont want her running deer, what should it do? im thinkin bout puting a shock collar on her and next time she runs a deer shock the heck out of her. what yall think?

Wait until she is more focused on coon.. Once you feel that she is doing what you want her to do set her up on a deer and break her. It's not a good idea to try breaking a dog when it is just starting. However if it get to be a problem you may have to take action sooner... Always set'em up on a deer that you see.. Don't go by I think she is running a deer...If you don't see what they are running you don't know for sure.. Good Luck and be patient....

If she doesn't make a habit out of running deer I wouldn't shock her until she is consistently treeing coons. Sometimes when you shock one it can take some of the hunt out of them. Alot of young dogs will bump something occasionally but after they get hunted a little more and figure out what you want them to chase they will stop.

Why would you want to wait to break any dog off of deer?

but condition her to it then when she runs a deer light her up every time she runs a deer and put a few coon out to her when she trees one

first time i would set her up on one and shock the fire out of her...but if she continues to do it she will get smart and not run one you turn her loose on then you got to know whats she is doing when most give a different mouth on a deer than even a very good running coon

last night i know it was deer on because i saw them run out n her behind em, she sounded the same but heck she doesnt really have a pattern, she has a high pitch voice on track n when shes treed she just goes ape****, she sound like a normal track then seen the deer. i didnt have the shock collar on her then but i called her off n she came too me which she wont do that on a coon because i tried it onenight when her and another dog ran forever on coon. thank god they finally got treed. but i had her n she was dying to go back out n i wouldnt let her n put her in the box n i think she got the point but i wanna make sure.
