I haven't tried it yet but the guy on Predator Quest on the hunting channel sure makes it look easy.

I use a dying cottontail mouth call. I hunt a lot of strip mines. I don't know what's available where you live, but pastures / fields are great.

You can listen to dying cottontail sounds on the internet to get an idea of how you want your sound to be. Watch Coyote hunting videos on youtube.

Generally, if you call for 10 or 15 minutes without any luck, move to another spot several hundred yards away and try again.

Camo yourself like you are going turkey hunting (head net, gloves, etc).

Carry a shotgun and a rifle. Sometimes they'll sneak right up on you before you realize it and you'll want to blast 'em with the shotgun before they get away! I had two last year come up behind me in the tall grass. They were less than 20 feet from me before I realized they were there. All I had was a rifle. We saw each other at the same time. They took off and all I could do was pop a few shots as they were scattering. If I would have had my 12 gauge I would have dropped them both, easily.

Get yourself a Foxpro CD player And A Mojo critter gitter. Use a yote pup in distress or two yotes fighting CD. Careful with the wind, always set-up downwind from where your projecting the sound. If they smell you, their GONE!!

Here in central oh. the cottontail in distress is overly used. Every amish in the county plays that, and have educated them. Weve shot 28 yotes the past two months and have had good luck with the gray fox in distress. Another one of my favorites is the yellow hammer woodpecker in distress. It works great on fox too. We hunt in tandem. I call and my buddy sets up down wind 75 to 100 yds. 95% of the time they will circle down wind although i have had a couple this year that havent. As justsandm said, never spend more than 15 min. on one set. run and gun. With the snow being so heavy we are giving them an extra 5 min. to meet there assassin. I use a 6.5 284 norma backed up with a browning 10 gauge.what justsandm said about the shot gun is right on,they will creep up fast and i never leave it on a hunt. been burnt too many times with just the rifle. I use a fox pro call and also have western river calls. Ive had good luck with both. I use a remote decoy but have had just as much success with a turkey feather blowing on the end of an arrow, anything they can see and focus in on that resembles food will deter there eyes off you. pup in distress works great in late april and may. i dont kill as many as i used to but im still doing my part trying to keep the -------- thinned out.

Thanx fellows this is new in SC we never had this problem until all these fox pen boy's started briging them in. Anway I see several techniques on here i wanna try and think maybe having a partner along for an extra set of eye's will be good an extra 12ga. won't hurt either.

Be sure to check your local regs. Electronic calls are not allowed in many states.

Just don't get caught, and if you do get caught...
don't have any deer or turkey sounds programmed on there!!!!!!!!

yotes

The easy's way to kill them is with 4or5 friends and a good pair of dogs we have killed 30 this year and close to 250 in about 2and a half years right around a 50 mile radious.

People run coyotes with dogs because there not smart enough to call them in. Running yotes with dogs requires too much trespassing, they dont make small circles like rabbits.
