Puppy Selection

You purchased a new coonhound puppy. Seller says you have pick of the litter. Puppy is 10 weeks old. What are you looking for and how would you make your selection?
Later, DJK

If you've done your homework on the litter the pup is out of just pick whichever pup stands out to you. There is NOWAY you can spend 15 - 20 mins watching a litter of pups and figure out which one is going to make the best one out of the litter. If they person that raises the litter can't tell which one is going to be the best then someone who spends a few mins with them doesn't have a chance.

OK, then what would you be looking for as a buyer? What would be something that "stands out to you"?
Just asking, DJK

Decide what you are looking for as far as what you want when it is grown. Open mouth get the mouthy one. The one that bawls about everything. Independant get the loaner doesn't interact with the others to much. One personable, first one to you that one will allso be the most out going most of the time.
Ask the guy that owns them to keep an eye one them and let you know witch is the cry baby witch is the loaner and so on. Then when you get there set in the pen take the guys word for witch is witch becouse they may not be that way right at that moment. Then pick the pup with the most of those natural treits as you can. Shut your eyes to looks except what you see in there eyes. If they look smart and out going they probubly are. Good luck.

Up until a couple years ago I picked pups myself and didn't like the choices in the end.

Then I let my son pick one. He said his preference was the pup that was boldest, didn't stop running around the yard and had a nice spot on his hind flank. His formula worked.

I picked one a couple months ago by myself again because my son wasn't available. They all looked and acted about the same. So I sat down and waited for one to pick me. That's the one I took home. It hasn't worked for me to pick one yet myself and if this last pup doesn't work out then I can blame the pup.

I think your best chances are to take your boys and let them play with the pups and pick one. They see things adults don't. Worked for me. Good luck, Denver.
