anyone treeing possums lately?

Don't know what it is my dog has never treed a possum since I've had him he's treed 3 in two weeks caught one in a cage put him on a chain and shocked him every time he went for it to the point he went as far away as the chain would let him. Gonna try tonight. Anyone else having trouble?

sure enough, a new place I got permission to hunt is loaded with them. Looks about the prettiest coon paridise ever. Hardwood bottom with a nice creek and acres of corn around. and i have treed coons in there, but possums galore!

My 7 month old pup treed one the other night. I cut him were they dump dead cows. I knew there would be some there. She showed interest there so I bumped him, told him bad game and sent him on. He went about 150 yards and treed on one. Done a good job. LOL...... I walked up, shot it out, started shocking as hot as my collar will go as soon as his teath got the possom. Then about the time the safety kicked the collar off I had him by the collar whiping him with the possom.
Sent him on and he got under a coon, got to fight it and ended on a real good note. Hasn't touched a possom since. I still dump were I they they are but our woods are full of them and that is one thing I never kill. Unless it is to train a dog.

Had a possum climb a tree outside my dog's pen a few nights ago and just sit there looking at her. Sat on a limb not far from the ground just above the pen's height. Made me mad as could be b/c it was almost like the thing was purposely antagonizing her. BUT....I shined the light on it and scolded her bad enough that she went in her doghouse and I never heard another peep the rest of the night.

Can't break the dogs off them if you kill them all. I dump were I know they are so I can proof them off the things. I never kill a possom unless I am training a dog with it. LOL

To me it depends on the dog, how old, how many coon it has treed and been peted on. I start them out just eating there but out and sending them on. That is when they are young pups. The longer they do it the more harsh it gets. My 7 month old has treed several coon and has been scolded every time he has ever seen a possome since he was born.
He treed one the other night so I shot it out, as soon as his mouth got on it I hit him with all the elec I had ( my collar is hot) by the time the shock quit I had him by the collar hitting him with the possom. Then threw it on the ground to see if he wanted it any more. Then sent him on and he went and got a coon. I loved him up good after he got to fight it. So far he hasn't messed with a possom.
I will dump my dogs were I know there are possom, deer or any kind of trash I can find and deel with it if I have a problem.
You can't fix them if you don't allow them to mess up.
I am thinking in a comp hunt they won't go threw and kill all the trash for you before the hunt. LOL

I sure don't like to kill possums. I have two places that I hunt where possums are real thick. One of the two places will be my first drop on a nite hunt.

I'm confused... I thought these hunts were FOR opossum... dang. no wonder. hahaha JK

The first thing I say in a cast after we cut the dogs loose is "This IS a opossum hunt, right?" it helps break the ice haha

Yotes can't get in a den hole. There taller than a coon. Not much black on them. LOL
