Dog Meeting Off Tree
HELLO. JUST WONDERING WHAT YALL DO FOR THIS. HOUND TREES GOOD AND STAYS HOOKED BUT MAY MEET OFF TREE 15 OR 20 YDS AND GO BACK. NOSE NOT ON GROUND BUT A LITTLE TOO FAR OFF FOR ME. ANY HELP??

Give him/her a good scolding when it comes back to you. If that doesn't work try a little switch. Just get the point across that is not acceptable behavior. Good Luck!

try ignoring the hound when he comes to meet you when he gets back to the tree love himup and make a big fuss over him if this doesn't work then go to robs method the only time i use punishment at a tree is for agressive behavior both methods will work but personaly i try not to use harsh treatment unless its absolutly nessesary

So whats the problem? Ive had a few dogs that would come off a short ways and meet.Not a big deal to me.If they tree and have the coon what more do ya want?

loose tree
If I go too long with out getting a coon down to mine he'll start getting loose on tree. Seems to be telling me to come knock the coon out. Knock a few down and he's good to go for a while. Thghtens him right up.
when a bear dog does this , it can be a big problem. pretty soon he'll have another dog following him.. down comes the bear... i ignore them . go to the dog thats on the tree and hitch him praise him a little.... i dont even see a dog that comes off tree to meet me... if that doesnt help ill go to the switch. dont try to cure this in one day. a switch in the nose every time he comes off tree to you should help.. pete
You might want to try and lease him up wherever he meets you. The dog will learn pretty fast that if he comes to meet you he will get chain up, it may take serval times but it work pretty good.
i agree with actionpackennels... i got a walker that is doing this and i leash him all the time and make him watch the dogs get the fur... he doesn't like that at all. I took him out last night and he actually held and stayed at tree. chopped everytime. Problem was i couldnt find tree with all the leaves in the trees. That could defeat my purpose.. If you do this you got to get fur in his mouth after he quits meeting you;..
