Warm compresses on the teat with it in it. If you have any antibotics give her some.

Thanks,

DJK if you have been giving her the Penn that long you may want to take her to the vet. I recently raised pups(goin on 4 weeks) and had to give one shot of PennG of 1.5cc and then kept the larger pups on that particular tit to pull the enfection out and it cleared up quickly.
If you cannot make it to the vet continue with the shots in the muscle. Give the gyp what ever it takes(broth and water) to keep her as hydrated as you can. Even Pedialites cant hurt. On the hour with water or as much as possible around the clock. Put in her water what ever you can to make her drink it, soups ect...Also like Hobo stated a heat pack on the infected tit to aid with infection. Then put the largest healthiest pup on the tit to pull the enfection out it will not hurt the pup. Good Luck

For the Life of me I can't figure out "Why Would you Allow a Pup to Drink Pus from an Infected Tit"

If you can Hand Milk the Tit by and use Warm Compresses is the Best way..

Usually the Pus and Crystals Clog the Milk Ducts and you can't get enough Flow to Clear the Tit ..

If you can Find a Womens Breast Pump this works very well IF you Catch the Infection in time..

I use a Breast Pump to Check the Flow and Color of the Milk every couple of Days on My Females .. I have Been thru Mastitus 4 times .. Now I use all precautions I can on Neursing Bitches..

Wash the Nipples and Tits at least once a day using a Antibacteral Hand Soap..

And every other day I spray the Nipples with "Fight Bac" which is used in Dairy Opperations..

Giving a Neursing Bitch Pen. G. Can and will do alot of damage to the Welps !!!!

1. It will Kill all the Natural Antibodys the Bitch has given to the pups thru the Colostrum ..

2. It will kill the Bacteria that the Pups use to Digest the Bitches Milk ..

My goodness if I have to go through all that to raise pups id darn sure quit. The pups sucking off the infected tit is an age old conteversy. I didnt have any problems. Your breast pump is for very bad infections. You should check the bitch a couple times a day for infection, some bitches are worse than others.
Hydration is absolutly neccessary.

FYI

For those of you that gave advice, last night I put warm to hot wash cloths on her tits that were clumpy. They were not bright red but getting there, and were warm to the touch. We also massaged them and started milking her. I could tell she was in pain, but with the warm cloths the pups worked over to the teet and started milking from it. This morning I checked on her and the teets turned to there pink color again and were not feverish. They are still a little clumpy but not as bad as last night. I also got a hold of the vet and she told me I needed to give the pennicillan intramuscalar and not orally. She also said to give 3 cc and keep on the heat compresses and make sure she is drinking/eating, which she is doing right now.
Thanks for all who replied!
DJK

Cabbage leaves

You can wrap the tits with fresh cabbage leaves. Don't use them continuously because it can disrupt the milk flow. Go about 2 hours on and 4 hours off. It will usually take care of the infection in about a day.
