Iknow this is getting old, but I read on here a few months ago about some mixtures to spray on trees to stop a dog from chewing and one in particular seemed like it would work, the guy said that he had a majority of them stop, hoping he will post it again, I will right it down this time.

white vinager stops shewing on wood in the kinnels and on dog houses and it mite work on a tree but i dought it will brake one from chewing on a tree but it could you got nothing to loose so try it.david

Go to Tractor Supply or a farm store & buy a can of No Chew and see if that will help. It is used for horses to keep them from cribbing. I'm doubtful it will stop one from chewing at the tree but you have nothing to lose & it might work. If the dog is chewing when you get to the tree walk between him and whatever he is chewing on and spray it real good & then walk on past it and see if it helps. Don't know if it will work but it's worth a try.

stupid question from me is how do you know where the hound is treeing it doesn't seem that it would work unless the tree was sprayed ahead of time

Chewing gets old and is a bad habbit dogs sub. chewing and jacking for chopping if its not real bad then i would not worry to much since its a trait it was born with most of time. the chewing will most likely get worse the hotter it gets, but most dogs that chew are stay put tree dogs. Just get a stick and tap the nose when they go to chew you have to stay on it or it no good also if your dog has been shocked before smack him on the nose and tap the collar lightly and then after that use your beeper and he will start to understand when he hears the beeper he about to get hammered and he will stop you just have to stay on it or its no use. If all else fails i woulnt do it but the vet will pull his teeth and that will keep him from chewing its about 100$ to get done

I would get him on the beeper when you here him settle nice on a tree and then he shuts up just hit that beeper and he should start choppin again

This female will chew some after I get there , a spray on of some sort may work. I have shocked her lightly when treed with other dogs and she backs up and keeps treeing,I have also done this when treed alone and she will leave the tree all together.She is 2yrs old, and I hunt alone a lot.

Scot, I don't think theres any cure. You might stop it or slow it down for a while, but in all cases I've heard of you can't cure it.

remember years ago a well known pro circuit handler on the PKC seen, had one that won alot but was horrible to chew. Watched him and his brother hold the dog down and filed his teeth, man did that dog scream. It sent chills down me just the noise of it! They did this at the club just before drawing out!

Yep thats the same thing johnny reb is talking about. My feed bill will be smaller if I have to go that far.I think your right murph, but she went from nothing to a chainsaw in about four nights , thought I would try a few things before I gave up , thanks for the input folks!!

Try a wire muzzle. A smart dog will learn. A not so smart dog will not learn.
