Den trees, Den Trees Everywhere

My dad and I went squirrel hunting yesterday at the AEDC WMA here in Tennessee. We made 18 trees, hunting all day mind you, saw 6 killed 5(dad let one get into a hole). Of the 18 trees we made all but 1 were den trees... Is it like this everywhere or am I just really lucky that way....

It's that way pretty much everywhere....Sow's are bred most places and in the process of breeding in other places, which will put all of 'em on the Den's. If they come down it's not far from home. I bet almost all the squirrels you killled were boars...

What the boars do is travel in between dens looking for sows that are out to chase and breed..This also puts pressure on the 'ol gals to stay close to the dens especially if they have done been bred...

Once they are bred they become home bodies, preparing their den's for pups only coming out quickly for a drink and back quickly so a wondering boar don't steal their stash of den food....

So moral of the story, no your not just lucky we are all dealing with it..

I have been getting a lot of dens, both in the daytime on squirrels, and at night, on coon.

It will get better.

Well,I'm glad that it's not just me.I went out today and treed 13-15 times and saw 2 ( all day as well) I shot both of the ones I saw and the first tree of the morning was a little weak,so I'll chalk it up to getting warmed up. But it still beats sitting on the coach.
