Buying a dog without a trial....

Do people actually do this? I see a lot of dogs for sale that list "no trial" or "price out of the kennel...?" This always makes me think the owner is hiding something. Am I crazy here or what???? Confused.......

Personally i'm not selling any of my dogs on trial, I don't want anyone else hunting my dog and doing dear knows what to it. So I can see why someone would not want a dog to go on trial.
But they should be able to take the dogs to the woods and let you see it go, if they won't I'd deffintly think they're hiding something.

Confused.......

If you don't know the man, you'd better know the dog.

That's all I got to say 'bout that.

way I look at it, I always sell mine on trials. but if the dog is only 200 to 300, then it is only a pup price, and I wont need to have a trial. just my opinion

I have had guys buy a dog on trial, get several hundred dollars in fur, then bring the dog back. I have had guys take a dog out with Old White Fang to see if the dog would stay treed. I have had guys completely ruin good young dogs in 2 weeks. There are plenty of guys that wouldn't know a good coon dog if one bit them on the butt. Well, the list goes on and on. I am not going to fool with just anyone.

I don't sell many dogs, so it isn't a problem with me.

I usually have plenty of guys that have bought dogs from me before to sell to if I have another dog for sale.

A person needs to take care, there are a lot of rip offs out there. Most folks have a dog for sale for a reason. The real good ones rarely come up for sale.

no way i'd let someone take a good dog or a young dog on trial. they can hunt it here any way they want to see it go & as many times as they want but let someone take a dog i'v put time & work & money into & give them a week or two to screw it up & bring it back, your out of your mind !! have you read some of the stupid stuff people come off with on this machine?? & you'd turn a stranger loose with your animal & take home for any amount of time & do no telling what with it or to it. (shock, whoop, beat, hunt with junk or mean dogs, feed, water, neglect)
no thanks, no trial from me !!

Theres a big difference between trial and seeing it hunt. I'd show any dog in the woods, but that don't mean I'll let you take it home beat the tar out of it, get it in fights and then want to bring it back. If I know you or some of my hunting buddies do than maybe, but if I don't know you, you will try him here as many times as you would like but he is not leaving here until he has been bought. Most people know how to treat a dog, but not all do.

i can see the pros and cons to the trials on coondogs but if the dog you want is half way across the country its kinda hard to drive 8 hrs. and make a few drops and then make your mind up , especially if the price is a large price . most coonhunters are working people that cant get the time off work to go hunt with a dog for a week , anything over 1500$ and i need to see more than a couple of nites

Yes They do I have bought my last four dogs this way! And no its not what you should do I have rolled the dice on these dogs and I have gotten three out of the four that are exactly what they said they were. Dont recommend it to no one, I have also got some dogs that a friend of mine whose still in the hunts has recommended ,This is ok if you hav someone like that. I only do it cause I dont have time to go look for one and hunt. I dont hunt competition anymore havent in 20 years to much BS. I have had grand nt, Night ch, and just a good old fashion coonhound treeing coon is whats important.

I don't sell alot of dogs but what I say is how it is and I think it depends on price if I buy a young dog for under 500 I expect no trial the problem people expect a powerhouse for nothing

Seems most say never buy without trial, But turn around and say they would not give trial if they were sellin. Seems to me if a man is selling a hound for 3 or 4 thousand dollars and has cash in hand and a contract that requires the hound to be returned in the condition it left, if he refuses trial hes hiding something.
