Dog pad help

Took my male out last night. We ran some corn fields that had recently been cut and when i went to feed today i noticed him limping. I looked and he has a piece of his right front pad missing. I sterilized it with saline then put some neosporin and gauze on it. Anybody know what works best on healing the wound up? Or should i just take him to a vet?
