Considering some of the people in the administration are deep-AR acolytes of
eter Singer I suspect they know full well who he is.
Wayne is right. Things haven't started rolling yet because they have been
reoccupied getting the stage set. Next year will see some action we won't like.
Once government gets financial interest in medicine and starts trying to reduce
carbon" you won't have time to think straight, the proposals will be flying so
ast.
Ban dangerous dogs.
Ban species that carry disease.
Ban keeping X number as pets.
Ban feed lots, battery farming.
Tax farms, breeders, carriers for carbon.
Tax owners.
Tax and maybe ban producers of animal products.
Regulate the pet industry.
Require EPA or similar licenses for large pets.
National MSN.
Mandatory annual health certification
Zoonotic disease used to ban keeping of X
Etc.
Activists have been making these wish lists for months now. They're giddy with anticipation over on their mailing lists and closed forums. Some (like Wayno) are disappointed that things aren't moving faster but they do see their timecoming soon.
And some foundations HAVE been laid. EPA has passed two that put them in the driver's seat and USDA and other agencies have already mentioned possibilities they would use. Another push for the comprehensive animal registration and racking of ALL movements (even riding a horse) is expected this coming year.
Does anyone really think with the economic situation in this country, the health care issues and unemployment issues that the federal government has any interest in any avenue of pet keeping? We aren't even making industry meet EPA regulations for pollution. Can we please focus on reality and not chicken little scares?
