Hound lost its eye?

I have a 6yr old female that had to have one of her eyes surgically removed today. Was wondering about other hounds that had this happen and how it affected their hunting ability or just getting around with one eye in general?

Man Mike you have luck like me... Unfortunately that hasn't happened to me yet although I know of one that did. Hillbilly 56 said it the way that I remember the one I knew about. This particular dog was a Norwegian Elk Hound and he lost his at 2 years of age and continued hunting til he died at the ripe age of 14... I must also add he treed squirrels in the daytime and coons at night... Hope all goes well...

Only had experience with one that lost his eye. He was bad to throw his head and blow on his blind side when he was treed with another dog. You didn't want to collar him up from that side around a tree, either. Ended up putting him down because I didn't want someone or another dog getting bit.

I had one who lost vision in one eye and you would not have known it. She lost vision in her other eye years later and still treed coons. It sure was pitiful to see her running into trees but once she struck she was as fast as the average dog.

I was blind in my right eye for years till I had cataract surgery . I still went to work every day . after it gets used to it it will be fine . it will have to learn to judge distance and terrain a little different . and I too was jumpy when the boss would come up on my blind side lol

My Emma dog lost her eye shortly after turning 2 yrs old, did not seem to affect her at all. Finished her to GrNtCh with one eye. I'm sure some obsticales might take her a 2nd attempt or slightly slow her due to judging distance but you'll not really notice it at all!

Does anybody remember that story I wrote in CB years ago about a Redbone female I picked up at Autumn Oaks? She was supposed to be a nice old broke dog and I needed something to hunt. When I went to get her she looked like 10 miles of bad road. More yellow in color, blind in one eye, big white patch on her chest, fat. I thought good Lord I hope nobody sees me leading her. lol I hunted Lady for the next few months. One of my all-time favorites. That blind eye did not affect her in the least.

I do. Besides lady, I have hunted 2 others and it didn't seem to slow either one down. One didn't like being bumped on his blind side while treeing however.

I had a Bluetick years ago that lost a eye, I could only hunt him about once a week because if he was hunted 2 to 3 nights a week he looked like someone had beat his head in with a bat. He really looked bad if hunted more than once a week. Ended up becoming a lot slower on track too. Good luck Mike.
