Numbers on Wildcats

Here's a chance to bragg or tell, LOL!
What's the most Bobcat ever taken in a season with your hounds? Trapping, snaring and calling do not count.
Thanks, DJK

Hey Kyle,
How you shoot it? In a tree? 41# is big. I caught a 36# tom 2 yrs ago.

Theo, our season is 10 weeks (12/1 - 2/14) times 6 days that is 60 days he averages more than 1 a day almost 2 that's a lot of miles for a man and dogs and each pelt must be tagged by a warden within 72 hrs. of the kill. Impossible no but highly improbable super dogs and superman I have never met. Back in the 60s and 70s an old friend with a blue hound used to get mad if he didn't take 30 cats a year but that was trapping and running his name was Ash Peasley and back then the season was longer. We do have more cats than people realize but if someone is taking 100 a season he should be shot that is just plain greed and not even close to sporting.

the guy Theo is talking about is more than likely Paul Laney a few years back they had him in the Maine sportsman he had gotten something like thirty with his plotts there was a big write up about it he has some real good dogs and is a very hard hunter and averages somewhere around 20 cats a season he does as good or better than anyone else i know around here . i agree with gun308 it would be near impossible to kill that many you know how it is if someone shoots a decent buck say around 230 lb ten pointer within a week it turned into 350 lb with 46 points and possible new state record i guess it is just human nature to expand the truth so to speak best of luck Larry

I had a hounddogger from Texas telephone me a few years back and claimed they killed sixty to eighty bobcats a year with or behind hounds. I don't know if he was being honest but he sounded liked he was serious. Seldom do I put my hounds down a bobcat track these days, I have ran down and killed a number of big toms bobers (mainly to show I could) but I like to stay with the lions and bears. Like they say, why run a little bober when you have mountain lions to kill, run with the big dogs so to speak.............

not all of us have the luxury of having lions to hunt. i know if we did i would definitely run them i have always heard its harder to tree a bobcat than a lion. i have also heard time and time again a good bobcat dog will more than likely make a great lion dog but success is way lower the other way around I might never be able to find out for myself if this holds true or not . But this much I do know for a fact the size of the game a man runs with his dogs is no way a measure of the size of the man or his hounds best of luck Larry
