Nite hunt strategy question

This is NOT a rules debate. Use the rules that are in place or go whine on a new thread.

4 dog cast. One older feller that can't hear, one kid on his first hunt, and Handler B is the judge. Your dog, Dog A, is locating a tree. Handler B trees his dog. You question it, without any success. So, Dog B is on the card with 125, the 5 is running, and your dog is treed solid by himself.

What do you do?

1. Try to get 2 minutes going on Dog B? Keep in mind your dog is treed everybreath and you're going to have to convince the cast that Dog B doesn't make a bark in there at any time for 2 minutes. You also run risk of Dog C or D getting treed or being pitched while you sandbag.

2. Tree for 75? You might lose 50 points if its a coon, lose 50 less if its slick... Dog B may actually get split treed nearby and you'll get moved to 125.

3. Let the 5 run out and then tree your dog? He goes down for 125 in that case. Big risk. You go to the tree and Dog B is there, and a coon is seen, you get minused both ways. If you couldn't convince anyone that Handler B treed the wrong dog you might not convince anyone that this is a different tree and you go down for 125- anyway.

Other options?

if you really feel the man called wrong dog. go to the tree, the man that treed or the cast should have no problem, if said dog is indeed treed, back off the tree, wait the 5 and then score, but if my dog was treed i would tree him.

Under those circumstances, I would just play it safe and tree my dog for the 75. My first choice would be to ask for a cast vote to minus dog B but apparently that was tried and failed. Now my next move is to tree for 75.

Thats a tough situation and has happened to almost everyone who has hunted the hunts for any amount of time.
As a handler, you must protect your chances of winning the cast as best that the situation allows and this one has to be handled on a case by case occurance. The best way to handle this dispute is to rush in and see which dog it actually is, but many times its just not feasable.

In the situation given, the players you have in the cast will make it tough to get it handled right, especialy since its the judge trying to pull it off.
Chances are its a desperation attempt on his part trying to steal the cast at the end of the hunt. Once in awhile they get it done and theres not much you can do about it except remind him about how much paybacks hurt.

I remember one situation where the guy not only called the wrong dog, he actually handled it on the tree. lol
Its getting bad when the judge has to read nameplates to decide whos dog is whos.

I told a guy one time a year and a half ago about paybacks and he wrote me up LOL I still laugh at that one.

Id tree my dog and let it be known that i believe hes alone. I dont think you can go to the tree before the 5 has run but i sure would be doing my best to get the cast as close as i could. Just call your dog honest and if the judge dont make it right put a ? on the card.

I'm with Chris. Maybe you get to the tree and Dog B is gone, he is gonna get minused. Maybe he'll cover and be there.

I can't stand a guy who pitches his dog.

I would like to know the rule on that. Looks like they could get close enough to see what dogs are there but I have no idea if it is legale or not.

I would question it before I treed. Then explain it when we get in there mine is the only one there I want him minused for 125 and I want credit where credit is due.

i would tell them to put the 2 on his dog point at that it is only your dog there and then if nothing else worked i would tree my dog, go there and hope his dog isn't treed

If this is the first tree of the night; the only real choice you have is to tree for 75 and make it known that you feel the handler treed your dog. If you had all ready made a tree; the other cast members might notice the difference in the dog's mouths. I said might. Hopefully, you'll get to the tree and find your dog alone. It's a tough call either way. Tom
