How far would you go to win? OR keep someone else from winning? I was just wondering how far people would go to get a win on their dogs in a Nite Hunt? and also how far would you go to keep someone else from winning?

If someone screws you, are you going to screw back? What are some of the things that have happened to you in a Nite Hunt to make the "Cheating Side" rear it's ugly head?

We hunted last night and got screwed on the first turn lose, 2 against one overrules. They tried to screw us on the 2nd time, and finally Quincy got tired of it. (we'll call them Joe and Bob) 3rd turn lose treed coon, 4-Q took them to possum/coon spot-up to the dogs which they tree. Joe got 1-strike, Bob-2. Quincy-3rd.
Joe-1-tree, Bob-2nd. Bobs dog comes off tree-he minuses. With 45 seconds left of the 5, he re-trees her in for 3rd tree. With 5 seconds left, Quincy trees-4th. There goes their + points.

My question is, what would you have done in this situation?

if i were quincy i would have withdraw and whip my dog for coming into a tree with only 5 sec left. sound like his dog is no count. what are you asking/complaining about?

I wouldent go out of my way just to get even......I do, however, keep a little list in my head of folks that I owe......just in case oppertunity for a little payback arises.

What makes you think you got screwed?
I can't tell from your post.

I am ashamed to admit that when I was starting out, I got cheated & I cheated back. I will always regret doing this & I hope that none of you repeat my mistake. In my case I scored a coon that I knew wasn't there & won the cast because of it. This was over 20 years ago & it still makes me a little sick when I think that I did this.

My advice is no matter what, don't ever let yourself sink to the level of cheaters.
Follow the rules and question calls if you think something isn't right.

BTW, I'm not to quick to assume that people are cheating. Sometimes they just don't know the rules or all of the details of a situation. On some occasions I found out that it was me that doesn't know the rules. You might be surprised how easily things can get cleared up by talking the situation over calmly and checking the back of the scorecard.

as one top handler said"i won't cheat but i'll use the rules to my favor"

as for someone outright cheating ,we'll be going to see the m.o.h. and a letter sent to U.K.C about the person or persons involved.

if my dog wasn't doing what it should be i'd just ride the hunt out and let the best dog win.

as for paybacks on someone that cheated me or someone else:don't let me catch you cheating,i will scratch and write them up!!!!

when i enter a dog ,its there to hunt and win ,not to be trained .if the dog cant do it's own thing ,i leave it at home.i won't try to beat someone else out of a win ,just because my dog's haveing a bad night...may the BEST DOG win i say..

The way I see it, if any of those dogs were broke coondogs, they never should have treed the possum in the first place-OURS INCLUDED. Quincy just treed his dog in in case it was a coon. Yes, we've treed the possum there before-3x, but there has been far more coons treed there than the possum.

I'll go into detail on the first turn lose, and let ya'll be the judge.
Q-1st strike and 1st tree. Joe-2nd strike, 3rd tree, Bob-3rd strike, 2nd tree. Joe and Bob's called their dogs split treed, but when we started walking to the dogs Joe and Bob's dogs came off the tree and went to Hank's tree. When they got there Joe and Bob teamed up and said that Hank moved and he did not. He has moved before, but not this time. They just did that so that they would get circle points and not minus because their dogs came off their split tree. There was no coon in the tree. It was about 15-20 feet down the bank, and there were no limbs touching, so no way to +.

Hey, you want to know what's funny about the whole deal?

I said that Quincy treed his dog with 5 second left. That didn't mean that Hank wasn't treed before that. HANK WAS THE STUPID MUTT THAT TREES THE POSSUM!! (We have been working on that, but evidently, NOT HARD ENOUGH!!) Quincy just wanted to make sure that if it was the coon, (which they treed on the bucket tree, so it very well could have been), that he would get some points, but we were soooo far from catching them anyways, why steal the big points from them anyways. Oh, there was 3 coons there too, our sow and 2 kittens, so the dogs had the chance to tree the coons, they just didn't.

What I'm saying is, just because we knew that there was a possum there a couple of times, we had no way of knowing that it was going to be there that night.

We hit our feeders in the regular order that we always do. Nothing was different. I think its taking a gamble every time that you turn lose.

No, Hank is not the perfect dog, (Just ask Coondawg!!) I've already admitted that repeatedly.

I just merely wanted to know, looking back on how many times we have been on cast with people that have cheated or tried to cheat. What makes winning a cast in a Nite Hunt such a big deal, that some people will do anything to win? I just don't understand.

AND THIS TIME, I AINT' NAMIN' NO NAMES!!!

Your either a DRAMA QUEEN or have the worst luck in the world. I have been reading your trials and tribulations for sometime and if it is going to happen it is going to happen to you. How many of these night hunts have been this way--most you have been involved with. You have a litter of pups and guess what--your bottle feeding them. I think you need a rabbits foot. Maybe you like these problems so much you keep creating them.

loses his ethics and dignity, winnin' does not mean a whole lot in my opinion....enough said on that..........I do not competition hunt my own hounds anymore, but do handle for people........folks around here know that if one of the dogs I'm handling gets a win, it's because he/she is a good hound, not 'cause I bent the rules as a handler..........my, and the dogs, honor and respect mean more to me than a win...........Christy/Q......when can I come see them puppies??....PS--Christy and her husband are VERY nice folks, hard hunters, and, unlike alot of folks, HONEST about themselves and their hounds.

This is blacksheep and this is how I look at it. Dogs are dogs and people are people. I dont currently competition hunt at all but have spectated a couple. I think Real friends and a mans reputation are a lot more important than winning . I dont have many friends and my reputation cant stand much more negative than may allready be there so I say cheating to win is wrong under any circumstances.

The way i figure...if you are a cheater you are just asking for a whupp'n. And eventually you are gonna cheat someone that will either give it to you or go on a mission to ruin your reputation.

Let the cheaters cheat, it will all come back to them someday.

A cheater in a nite hunt will generally be a cheat overall. If they cheat in a nite hunt what's to stop them from stealing, lying or cheating in everything else they do? They obviously don't have a problem with it or they wouldn't cheat in a hunt either. Cheaters aren't to be trusted period.

The puppies will be 5 weeks old Friday. We are figuring on letting them go about 7 or eight. That way we can make for sure that they are eating good, and are really going to be OK. I guess you could say, that I'm trying to introduce food to them slowly. Right now we have puppy food ground up, mixed with formula so that it is really thick. We've almost got them licking it off the end of the nipple, and sometimes they will lick it out of a spoon. They get a teaspoon of Nutri-Cal a day, and 4 Puppy Pet Tabs a day too.

Thank you for sticking up for me. I really dont think that we cheated anyone at the turn lose that the dogs treed the possum. We didn't hunt the feeders any different than any other time. As a matter of fact, the guy that won the cast, has had 3 first places off of our feeders, and he was totally shocked that there was a possum there. He has treed 4 coons there on different Nite Hunts.

But, if everyone thinks that I cheated, that's fine. If that is the case that I cheated, then everyone else that has ever guided a Nite Hunt and had taken someone to a spot and the dogs treed a possum, they cheated as well.

In the last 3 weeks we have saw 16 coons with our dogs at these hunting spots. 6 of which was at this feeder where the dogs treed the possum. We have always been honest hunters, and by dern it we're still honest hunters. We had no idea that the possum was there, and for that matter, the dogs should have treed the 3 coons that were there if any of them were any account of a COONDOG. Hank included. Needless to say, the little possum didn't stay there long, because after the last turn lose, which they did tree another coon, we went back and made sure it wouldn't be there anymore.

DRAMA QUEEN ENOUGH SAID ON THAT SUBJECT. I HAVE GOTTEN BEAT BY THE BEST AND HAVE WON ONE OR TWO. I ALSO HAVE BEATEN PROBABLY A BETTER DOG THAN WHAT I WAS HUNTING BUT THE BREAKS FELL MY WAY. IT SEENS EVERYONE HAS A GO GETTER BUT ME, IM STILL TRYING TO SLOW DOWN OLE PREACHER HES ALL I CAN HANDLE; EVERY TIME WE GO OUT ITS A WHOLE NEW ADVENTURE.

ok heres the deal you should never cast your dog out in a night hunt if you are uncertain of what he is treeing , and why do you need to hunt with a feeder bucket is your dog not capable of finding his own coon without bait

I dont think you did anything wrong because you didnt break any rules! What I do think is, UKC should make a rule that you cant hunt off feeders. It gives an unfair advantage to that cast. That is only one step above having a cage coon to turn loose right in front of the dogs.
