young dog with leg problems what is it

I have a 6 month old pup that when you look at him it looks like his leg from the knee area down is bent. It is like he is walking on his whole bottom portion of his leg. I just noticed this today. My dogs are fed very well and are healthy. What is this and how can I cure it. I have had a guy say it was ricketts. Is that what you all think. Let me know.

sounds like ricketts, give cod liver oil..if its real severe you may need to splint its legs or have a vet give his thought on it.

I found this info. doing a search, thought I'd pass it on.

The illness of Rickets is present in young dogs due to the lack or deficiency of "calcium or vitamin D."
It is characterized by a tendency toward the formation of long bones in the legs. You will notice bone swellings developing in the extremities(legs) of the long bones. There is a tendency in puppies for the long bones to arch outwards due to the pressure of the body weight. In more advanced cases, the complete bone structure is deteriorated, and the dog has a lot of difficulties getting around.

" The lack of sunlight is also a contributing cause of rickets, as well as a bad diet. "

The case can worsen notably, leading to an irreversible state. If you think this is what your pup has, please take it to the vet soon!

I had a post a few weeks ago talking about the benefits of cod liver oil. It works on some and some it don't. The cheapest place I've found it is at Walgreens. I've got a 4 month old pup that'll go 60 pounds or better. He was starting to get bowed legged the cod liver oil straightened him out.

its probably not rickets...its called knuckled over. try a food change from puppy chow to normal adult feed like a 21-12. i had one a couple weeks back get real bad and after 4 or 5 days after the food change it went away and the pup is now perfect.
i also recomend 1 spoon of cod liver oil a day until the bottle is gone. here is a link about knuckled over pups..

http://www.greatdanelady.com/articl...ckling_over.htm

id be willing to bet after a feed change and some cod liver oil it will clear up within a week
