Hunt entry ?

John Doe, isn't going to get off of work in time to make the entry deadline. He gives his entry card to his buddy, who enters his dog for him and informs the m.o.h. that John will be 15/20 mins. late. John arrives at the club house and is informed that he has been scratched.
Question: Does John have to delay the cast for 1 hr. in order to be scratched or can he be scratched right away, if so what rule?

I can't say 100% for sure but it seems I've heard in the past something about dog or owner having to be present to enter.

Dale you are right. Owner or handler must be present to enter and compete.

I believe the handler must be on the grounds when his cast is called.

Ask Oak Ridge, he could tell you for sure.

You don't have to wait for handler and dog to arrive. Handlers and dogs are suppose to be at club when casts are drawn out. If cast and guide are ready to leave 2 minutes or 15 minutes after cast is drawn any one not ready would be scratched by the judge of the cast.Their is not a allowed time for handler / dog to show up late, the judge of said cast would be the one to scratch dog.

What rule was used to scratch John?

Nothing in the Advisor. Nothing in the 09-10 rulebook. Nothing on the back of the scorecard.

How long should you be required to wait for John to show? Why should the other three have to wait for one dog and his handler John to show up before they start their hunt? For all they know John might not show. I do know you have to have dog and handler at the larger hunts when casts are drawn out.

As for a rule I would say it would fall under a judgement call for the judge of the cast whether to make the other cast members wait to get their hunt started and possibly not get their hunt in. You never know what situations might occur later on in the night and those valuable minutes might cost someone a win.

I heard John was ready to go before the guide and one cast member.

delay

I don't think that the 1 hour delay rule was written with this in mind. Given that the entry was accepted by the master of hounds under the impression the handler would be 10-15 late. I assume that the moh would check with the guides available from the local club management, if that would be a problem. I believe you would handle this situation as following. The cast should have went to the moh and told him that They were ready to leave, but John was nowhere to be found. The moh would then set a reasonable time for John to show or he would be scratched

I think it was stated it would be thirty minutes and said cast was ready to go when said handler showed. That was after discussing it untill 15 after the dead line anyway.

They have deadlines for a reason. If you can't make them don't go. Pretty simple.

No Rule Needed

MOH should not have taken the entry, even though it was a nice thing to do, by doing it caused an awkward situation for a lot of people.
