No Sackett Jr. Whatsoever

I have a line bred Nichols Creek (House Line) female that is a top reproducer from 3 different studs. The best cross came from a male no one knows about that has no Sackett blood. She has no Sackett blood and likes to have a coon. What would the coon hunters suggest to breed her to.

Thanks,

David

I pretty sure contamination would be in the eye of the beholder, but not all Sackett stuff is bad stuff thats just silly. Some of the biggest improvements to many lines of dogs have come from that one special outcross. If she had crossed well on everthing else she had been bred to curiosity would push me towards something totally different just to see if she was a special individual or if her entire pedigree is driving her reproduction success.

Sackett blood

Remeber guys, I didn't say Sackett blood was a bad thing, I just have a top female that doesn't have any and I wondered if there are those out there that would keep it that way.

The Sackett comment was just me beating everyone else to the punch ...

If it were my , I'd find some of the old Yadkin River blood ..

Yadkin River was the top half of Sackett.

Yadkin River was the top side of Nailor.

Put some Yadkin River on the top side of your gyp and you might have the next Sackett Jr or Nailor ....

.. how's that ?

Nailor and Sacket Jr both came along at just the right time ... folks say they both weren't freaks , just good producers ...

.. hmmmm , guess why they produced ? .. because of that Freakzilla Lipper and his daughters they were bred to ...

Heck, compare Sackett Jr production percentage %percentage (% the name of the game) to any stud of any breed at any time. My last issue of Coonhound Bloodlines where this information is listed is 5 years old. Is there another super stud in the last 5 years that beats the %? Not talking about studs with few pups to run up the %.

LOL. LOOK AT THE PERCENTAGES MAN! THEY DONT EVEN COMPARE!

LIPPER'S PERCENTAGE:
405 TITLED DOGS / 5103 OFFSPRING = 0.07936 * 100 = 7.9365%

SACKETT JR'S PERCENTAGE:
410 TITLED DOGS / 2072 OFFSPRING = 0.19787 * 100 = 19.7876%

This is the best I ever saw it said:

quote:

Boys, I don't have much of a stake in this, not being a Walker man, but I have hunted with enough Sackett dogs and Lipper dogs to have an opinion, and since this is a place where they are expressed, I will voice it.

I think it is fair to say that percentage wise, Jr. produced a higher percentage of what I call usable dogs than any Walker stud in history. His pups, by and large, made coon treers. They were trainable, and were tree dogs. They were the kind of dogs that casual coon hunters can get along with.

Lipper on the other hand, threw a higher percentage of culls and rejects, but the good ones out of old Lipper were, in my opinion, a cut above the Sackett Jr. dogs, at least for what I like in a hound.

I don't think any Walker stud has marked the breed as distinctively as Lipper did. His pups were easily recognizable both by physical appearance and the way they sounded and operated. I don't think Jr. dogs are as distinct; but they are coon treers.

I know there are exceptions, and out of 2,000 pups there are going to be some real dandies.

But the Jr. bred dogs I have huted with did not have the drive, the speed, and the mouth of the best of the Lipper dogs. They were easier to get along with and caused less headaches for their trainers, in my opinion.

I will say this, and then I will leave you spotted dog fanciers alone and let you shoot me full of holes...

The Walker breed, with the popularity and prevalence of the Rat Attack dogs and their offspring, is in dire need of another good stud dog that will throw some of what Lipper put into the breed.

Thats not accurate. You don't add the nitechamp. and grandnite together to get your percentage. Now redo the math with Lipper having 290 and JR having 261.

Just part of the reason is when you go to a comp. hunt and 95% of the entries are walkers. They want to win.
The other part of the reason is out of the 95% walkers, 95% have Sackett Jr in them. They want to win. Yes, it's pretty much a "me too" crowd that can't stand a me too dog.
