Tracking collars?????

Anybody had tracking collar that the battery goes dead in a year for multiple years? Unfortunately it is not because I am using it that much? I hunt from once a week to once a month at most. I replaced the battery last november and it died a month ago. I am not sure if the magnet is getting weak or if it is soimething else? Anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks,

I have an F&L MN 10 and a Johnson and a wildlife collar. I think it is the Johnson that is going bad. I had the battery replaced last year. This collar you take the magnet out to turn it on and put the magnet in to shut it off. I use a piece of an old bicycle inner tube to help hold the magnets in place and to protect the antenna. I know it sounds a little redneck but that was the way it was when I bought it twelve or thirteen years ago, used, off of a friend. I like the way it works but wish I could afford one of the new garmins. Could there be a short in it somewhere causing the battery to run down or something draining the magnet causing it to turn on and run down the battery?

that's what I'm saying, try it with the magnet in, that will tell you if it's staying on all the time, sometimes it will still transmit a weak signal, enough to run the battery dead.

I usually check it before I put it up to make sure I got the magnet in good enough. However when I pulled it out it was weak one time and dead the next.

go to the message board under vendors under coon hound classifieds. There is a guy by the name of mike rivers, he can re do it for you. I have seen mikes work and hands down the best for $ . He only does certain type collars. Give him a call.

ya mike rivers fixed me up really nice. I had 4 collars all used. 2 were dead when i got them and 2 almost dead. He put 4 batteries in them and that was last year. 2 of them i think its the reed went out which causes the battery to die. The magnet is suppose to shut the reed off which cuts off the circuit the way i understood it and if the reed goes out then the battery continously runs. He backs his work up really good and super friendly guy, thats who i 1st started going to and dont know where i would go if he gets out of it
