Brett Gragg is right.Bayer Tree and Shrub. You can buy it at Home Depot or Lowe's.Works very well.Supposed to have the sameactive ingredient that your Frontline,Advantix etc. have.1 bottle should last you a very long time.Good luck.

i've been using the bayer tree and scrub for several months on 5 dogs. it works great. i use 1cc per 4 pounds. for a 40 pound dog i use 10 cc. i read about that dosage some time ago on squirrel dog central. if less works for you, then that is even better.

The Bayer tree and shrub has work well for me. It is very inexpensive , but is getting hard to find in stores in this area. Do not buy the one with fertilizer included.

I use 12 CC's squirted down the back about 3 times during the summer and havn't had a flea in over two years. 12 CC's for a 60 lbs dog.

It works only marginally for ticks. For ticks I use something with Permethin in it. You can buy 10% permithrin and mix it yourself , or buy the drop kits.

As with any drug , test with caution first .

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.....Do NOT use any flea medication from walmart, kmart etc.....TOO many times we have pets coming in the emergency clinic who have life threatening reactions to these generic meds. They do not work and are NOT safe for your dog.

I have used permethin and works well for ticks but will not kill my fleas. I have put stuff on my yard. Sprayed all trees and used bayer tree and shrub and even put on dog. Worked for about a week and then they were right back. I now have went back to the old fashion hartz flea collar from walmart that protects for 7 months and even kills the eggs. Not had a flea on mine in over a month. Only thing I could find that would work.

HORSE FLY SPRAY

If you look on the back of a bottle of horse fly spray it has directions on it for use on dogs for fleas and ticks but it also keeps the flies off of them too. I spray all my dogs down with Absorbine brand fly spray twice a month all summer and never saw a flea or tick and the flies left them alone too. I have six dogs and didn't even go through one $20 bottle all summer. I get the waterproof/sweat proof kind. It's a blaze orange squirt bottle at TSC.

If that's true............. you're not putting enough on them. I put 26-30 cc on each dog and rub thoroughly in. This stuff will kill anything from my experience. Read my post follow my directions.

Treating the dog is only half of the equation. treat the dog, change the bedding and treat the kennel.

If you can put the dog in an above ground kennel if possible. Flea life cycle is dependant on contact with dirt at least one per day.

Front~Line

I have had a problem with this for the past month.
(so glad I found this thread)
I have 2 house dogs that have been covered in fleas for a month! I am a believer in front line (and heart guard~I hope like heck IT's working!)
I also have 3 hounds outside in kennels.
THE HOUSE DOGS have the fleas. All treaded at the same time on the 28th of September. No fleas on the outside dogs as of today. I have had to treat the inside dogs again (1/2 dose because I was afriad I would make them sick) on Oct 7. STILL have fleas. NOTE~I have no carpet in my house. Hard wood floors/all furniture has been sprayed for fleas. We (people)do not get them nor see them on us inside.

I want to treat them again today with a full dose, but I am afraid I will make them sick from the treatment.

I emailed Front~Line, no responce. Thier web site says there is no expiration date on thier product. I am stuck.
Jeff~can you repost your original post on the Bayer Tree & Shrub? Is it safe on smaller hounds as well? These are dachshunds. ~stretch red bones ~Thanks for any help with this!

Using Python cow tags. Ticks was killer this year. Used cow tags and little to no problem with ticks and not one flea on any of my dogs this year. Can buy at Tractor supply. Has to be the purple ones.

That frontline stuff only makes them sterile once they bite the dog so they stop reproducing. It doesn't keep new fleas off the dog. The dogs must be getting into new fleas somewhere if frontline isn't working. You need to treat more than just the dog.

Horse fly sray kills the fleas on em and makes new ones stay away. You can spray the kennel and bedding with it too. 7dust for garden plants is the best thing to put in their bedding I think. It's the stuff you put on tomatos to keep the tomato worms away. If you got fleas everywhere real bad, Change your bedding, mix a little 7dust in the new bedding, give the dog a bath, and spray him down with horse fly spray.

I've got my dogs on dirt floor kennels with dog houses full of straw and havn't seen a single flea or tick all summer!!!
