My son Daniel, 21, left this morning for Germany to spend 10 mos. at Marburg College as a German exchange student. Mommy is trying to be brave....but inside I'm crying....my baby bird has flown the coop. Pray that he has a safe flight and that he will be ok over there. I know, your probably saying he is old enough to be on his own, but he is my oldest and still my baby, it is so hard. He should get over there about 1 am our time. I'll be sleeping with the phone til I hear from him!

Lori it is our jobs as parents to worry about our kids. No matter how old they are. Will be praying for a safe flight, stay and return home.

Thanks all. I sure do appreciate it. I don't think it will really sink in that he's gone for a few weeks or maybe monthes, but it will hit me, I'm sure. His 21st B-day is on the 26th. I'm sure that day will be spent with baby pictures and a tissue box.

I'm laughing right now... you remind me of myself....

My son, Richard went off to boarding school for High School... I'm USED to a son being gone. When he went to college... it was further but...Not too much worse... now he's still in college but not too far... and engaged and... When poor son #2 left for college...I didn't even go along for the trip! LOL... When #3 leaves? Not sure I'll even notice? LOL. NOW...Bob on the other hand... is SO SAD when they leave after a visit home etc... I went to boarding school, was at summer camp(with horses, Bob and COONHOUNDS)... every vacation as well as summer... my parents had to travel all over the world and were often gone etc... I can easily feel "connected" even when apart. Funny thing is... this is how I made friends on here so easily.... When we actually met people in person it felt like we already KNEW each other. I bet the internet will help you keep in touch with your son more often...
And... we're still sending prayers, Heather
