Get you a guart mason jar and mix you half laundry detergent( I use Tide) and half peroxide. I put a squirt of my body wash in there to :-) . Shake it up real good and its ready to go. Its worked for me every time. Everybody always told me the detergent would be to harsh on there skin but I have never had a problem with it and they always come out smellin' like a dryer sheet :-). Make sure you use the whole jar that washing.

you can google the recipe...Dawn dish soap is good it has a degreaser in it for the stinky oil, recipe includes baking soda so do it in the correct order

it isn't perfect, but its pretty good--better than anything else I know of.
Nature's Miracle, an enzyme cleaner available at pet stores, is good for collars, and dog boxes. Skunk spray is an oil, so anything with detergent helps disperse it. However, undiluted laundry detergent directly on a dog can hurt its skin, especially if the skins is already irritated. If the dog breaks out in rashes from skunk spray, give it benadryl, 1mg/lb of dog--about 2X the human dose.

Used this one time on a DC-30 and a shocking collar and it worked far better than either of the two over the counter cleaners I bought. I don't know about how it works on a dog because the dog that got sprayed was my cousin's and I let him worry about getting the smell off her.

I agree! I've had my dogs get into skunks several times before and nothing I ever tried worked very well. It does help if you can get them to water and get them to go swimming within 5-10 minutes of when they get sprayed while the musk is still fresh can get some (not all) of it washed off.

But really only time will get rid of the smell. Of course you will get used to it so it won't bother you, but if you're like me your wife will kick your butt everytime you come home after a spraying...LOL!!

If she got the spray in her eye, take her to the vet. Skunk spray is an acid and will burn the corneas badly.

The baking soda and peroxide is about the best at getting the smell off.

Nothing gets it all out

But there's no substitute for soap and water - lots of it. Baking soda won't clean it off, but it will help absorb the odor.
Time is your best friend.

Use plain white vinegar, bathe them in it, let it sit on them for half a day or so, then just hose them off with water...works great, as well or better than those recipes you use...btw, any of those recipes with baking soda will take paint off of porches, etc...if its a small dog, you can bathe them with tooth paste with baking soda, works good as well...

You guys are welcome. They have tried to produce this formula. With no luck at all. The way this foams up there is no way to keep a lid on the bottles. Mike
