Made One Climb
Trotted my blue potlickers north of Menard this morning. Jimmy struck a trail and his littermate Lizzie covered him in short order. They trailed about half a mile in about 10-15 minute period before I heard Jimmy jump. The race was on and the dogs crossed a fence causing me to drive my truck around to the north to get in the pasture with them. When I got in the pasture, I killed the engine and listened for the dogs with no luck. I pulled out the tracking system and got a reading to the west along a rough draw. When I got closer, I could hear the dogs treeing on the edge of a bluff. As I walked into the tree, at about 8:30 a.m., I could see Lizzie and a mature tom in the same live oak tree. I pulled my Browning Buckmark and hung one in the neck of the tom at about 25 steps.
I was proud of the dogs as they did not make a major bobble while running the cat. I think that they got after this same cat about 6 days ago and he managed to get away from them somewhere along this wash. Today belonged to the blues.
Adios,
Gary
