Elevated kennel ???

Does anyone use an elevated kennel? I see in the Bill Boatman catalog they talk about using 1"x1" welded wire on the floor of an elevated kennel. I'm going to have to redo mine soon and just wondering what the people who have tried this thought or how you liked it?

Thanks, Dan

kennels

I use above ground kennels made out of duck house flooring they come in 2x4 sheets that lock together. I Use either 2x4 0r 2x6, (depending on the size of kennel) treated , for the frame work. for my sides I use goat panels they have 4x4 holes. if i could figure out how to post some pics i will. my last pen i built I roughly had $275 in it. it was 4x6 or 8 cant remember, its my beagle pin

pen

myself would think that a elevated kennel would be hard on a big dog??. an the thought of havin to pick up a dog ( if its to high ) to put him in everytime would kinda get old..

my pens are only 24" off the ground so the dogs just have to hop up into them. I also have them on a concrete slab so cleaning is easy with a powerwasher. then in the rear i have a nice worm bed a can get some good fish bait as well. got crawlers big as my thumb.

we just built a bunch of them and we used 2x4's ripped in half spaced 1 1/2'' apart and it works well.

Mines not. It's 4' above the ground. I put lime down a couple of times a year. Haven't had an odor problem yet. I only lock mine in if we're gone for the weekend. Otherwise they each have a 35' square pen they run around in. So they do the duty outside the kennel.
What Keith used for his floor looks like the same thing I used.
Keith. Do your dogs climb out?

Scott

Take a look at this flooring...you won't get anything better.

My brother got some of this out of an old hog parlor and it is great. I don't know how much it costs, but I'm sure it is very pricey.

I have soem Kennels with the above ground floor. I used rough sawn cedar lumber and made a slat floor. It works great, but if it didn't have a roof the rain would wash it out, instead of hoseing it out. Most of the droppings fall thru by themselves anyway.

I just called Seneca kennels and supplies last night and they told me $750 for a single above ground coondog kennel & $1420 for the double. This is not including shipping.

Sounds pretty close. If you talk to a Seneca Rep they can get you a better deal than calling them direct. A nice gentlemen from Virginia or WV that runs beagles helped me. I can't recall his name, but he is on the board.
