This is the last I will say on this topic due to the fact that my knowledge of the situation seems to be offending people. I am sorry to those that I may have offended as it was not my intent. I am just true blue card carrying member of the Big Blue Nation and sticking up for my cats is just instinctual.
I am still proud Coach Cal is our coach. I believe the following years will be some of the best ever for the UK program and we will be back on top sooner rather than later.
Anybody who follows college basketball and specifically college basketball recruiting knows that any coach who is consistently winning at a high level crosses the letter of the NCAA law from time to time. All the top coaches of my lifetime have been in trouble with the NCAA at one time or another, Roy Williams, Coach K, Rick Pitino, Coach Cal, Bill Self, Kelvin Sampson, Jim Harrick, along with many others. The NCAA is very hypocritical on how they issue punishment in these instances, see my earlier post regarding the Corey Maggette incident while he was at Duke. Is it likely that Cal has crossed those lines at some point, yes it is but he has never been implicated in any of it. This situation would not have come to light had one of Rose's high school teammates not bragged about his test score being changed to the wrong people. The NCAA Clearinghouse, the NCAA office that must clear all players and thier grades and test scores before they can play, cleared Rose to play and now they hold Memphis responsible for letting him play when they cleared him to play.
Anybody who follows UK knows that we have been one of the most penalized college basketball programs in NCAA history. It dates all the way back to Rupp and then the major blow with Eddie Sutton. Since Eddie Sutton UK has put into place the best NCAA compliance office in all of college sports. That is why UK has not even sniffed a NCAA violation since the day Pitino started on as coach until today. The UK compliance office contacted the NCAA when they were interviewing Cal and Cal was cleared of any wrongdoing in this situation before he was ever hired. Both Mitch Barnhardt and Lee Todd as well as the head of the compliance office knew of the ongoing Memphis investigation. That is why Barnhardt mentioned during the press conference to announce Cal as coach that he was completely clean as a coach in regards to any past or current NCAA investigations. Cal will probably still work the boundaries of the law, like other top coaches, but I would be very surprised if he are UK were to ever get into any NCAA trouble during his time as coach.
