Light Problem?????

I have a light that when you turn the head on high will shine for a minute and then shut off. You then have to turn the switch off and turn the head back to low. It takes about 30 second and it will shine again. Does anyone know what is causing this? My other light will shut off after a while when shining on bright but you can turn it off and then immediately back on and it will shine again. Any help would be appreciated.

Most lights will only burn the high side with the switch turned up to 5.Is yours shutting off when the switch is cranked all the way up?

I got a prolite that was doin what sounds like the same thing. It would burn on the low side but when i switched the head to the high side and slowly turned the click switch up to let the bulb warm, it would be very dim and slowly fade out. You could flip the head back to the low side and then flip it back to the high side and it would do the same thing. I sent it back to pro lite and they said it was some kind of circuit breaker.

.

These lights have what is called a thermistor (thermal resistor) on the switch circuitry. If you have the head on bright and do not have the switch on high, the current will cause the thermistor to heat up and not allow current to flow to the bulb. This is exactly what the thermistor is designed to do and when it cools off it will work again. This prevents running the switch hot and damaging it which it will not cool down and then work properly like the thermistor will.
If your head is on high and the switch is on high, you probably need to replace the thermistor in your housing if it is going out on you. If I have my head on high and the click switch in ANY position besides high, my thermistor will heat up and cause my light to go off.

Thanks for the help. Do you happen to know where I can get a new thermistor?

The manufacturer of your light will probably sell you the required thermistor for your particular model. If not, you can try googling "thermistor suppliers" and find one that way.

If this happens when the switch is in the highest setting do the following:

When the light goes out, loosen or tighten the bezel on the head until the light comes back on. What happens is the bezel gets to tight and when the bulb creates the heat on the high side, the bulb and head loose contact because the bulb is pushed down to tightly on the head.

Look under the helpful hints section of this link.
