Local Humane Society

My company had a Volunteer Day this past week. Everyone was paid regular wages to go out into the community and volunteer for local organizations. They called it Orange Day (our company logo is orange)The plant also shut down early for the week shutting off almost all HVAC, lights, computers, printers, etc as a Green Day also, plus it saves money...

I was a teamleader and my group of 7 worked with volunteers with the local Humane Society at our county Animal Control facility. We worked hard, but had fun. At lunch we all talked, 2 of the 3 animal control folks and myself were hunters, I think the Humane Society folks were surprised, we had a respectful discussion about animals and how one can love their pets, hunting dogs, etc but still see wildlife as a resource. I do not think I converted anyone, but from what was said it appears that we broke their stereotype of what a "hound hunter" is. At the end of the day hugs were given by all, the place was cleaned spic and span, and all dogs had been given 10 to 15 minutes of exercise which is something they do not normally get. I felt good about what I had done and helped educate others on my sprt...plus i got paid to work with dogs for a day!

On a side note, I am seriously having to fight the temptation to go back and adopt the sweetest dog, she was awesome and followed me like a puppy.......

What a great story!

Thanks for sharing and for helping the dogs. Have you gone back yet and adopted that dog?

GOOD FOR YOU!

SOunds like you did a GREAT thing. Best thing we can do is get the GOOD word about hunting and hunting with hounds to the general public. People are always shocked that Bob and I have been involved with rescue, own a couple useless pet coonhounds(one WAS a coondawg)...AND we loved to coonhunt in the past and HOPE to be out there again soon as well... I have never understood how people can assume hunters are BAD people and not good to animals....

Stories like this are the way to change peoples minds!
