One mans view on training a hound, i have seen it and i have participated in this action but i am here to tell you there is no better way to train one that praising them and correcting them in other ways don't get me wrong there are times that a hound needs reminded but i think that as a whole group we have taken the switching to a new level . i believe and actually have seen a hound win all over the country that to me acts like a robot and guess who has the controller the handler and to many times have a seen these hounds self distruct. i have done more switching on the side of my leg than i ever have on the side of my hound, and for that reason she hunts for me and wants to look good for me. that is what drives her not a stick, that i just picked up. if i draw someone in the late round and there hunting a robot thats the dog that i want to face because sooner or later that controller is going to run out of batteries.


Don't get me wrong you have to switch them now and again

I have never had to switch Jester. He responds pretty well with a verbal correction. Now I have dogs that were as stubborn as the day is long, and have had to, but it has been a while.

every dog is like a kid , some will never need more than a harsh tone to stop them in there tracks and others need a good whooping to get them to start to think.. i have neve seen a robot style dog in my life the dog that will win in a late round is and will always be the dog who is hunted them most and is tuned up. and the dog who wins is the one who did not make misstake's or the handler did not screw up. i believe when you win it was just your time nothing more nothing less...

i like the way you think. all my dogs are pets & i treat them like that. it makes it a whole lot easier to fix a problem without having to whoop on um. yeah there is times they get a whoopin but very rare. it seems to me the more a dog likes you the easier they are to train & break.
