Purina Pro Plan ??????

I just shelled out 40$ for a bag of Pro Plan to feed to my female and a pup we are raising. It is the Pro Plan Performance Formula.

My question is will my female hold up on the amount of food that is recommended on the bag. She weighs around 45-50 pounds and it says to feed her 2-2 1/3 cups a day. Will she hold up on that while being hunted or will I have to feed her more.

How much are you guys feeding your hounds that are being hunted hard. I hunt her at least 3-4 nights a week and some weeks 5-6 nights.

Also is this a good food for pups, this pup has been real finicky about eating Puppy Chow. Anybody ever raise pups on this and how did they do?

YES

We've raised the last three litters we had on Pro Plan Large Breed Puppy Formula. They loved it and we had outstanding results. Feed what is recommended on the bag to start with and if you find it not enough, add a little more. Every dog is different.

We have two finicky dogs right now and we've had lots of success with the shredded blend by Purina. They love it and knowing their getting the nutrients needed makes us feel good too.

Good luck...I think you'll be happy with the results.

Well I just fed and my female sucked it right up in no time. My pup ate some but not much more than he usually does. I'm thinking he may just be one of those dogs that eats a little at a time throughout the day rather than all at once.

are you feeding the pup regular adult food or puppy food? they may not like the taste of the adult. puppies should be on puppy food to help them develop correctly.

I feed my pups the shredded chicken and rice, and they look great on it.

Today I started him on the Pro Plan Performance which states on the bag it is for all life stages of dogs from pups through senior dogs. I also give him a puppy vitamin each day like I do with all pups I raise. I have always had great luck with Puppy Chow but this pup just doesnt seem to like it very well. He also didnt like Sportmix very well so I am starting to wonder if he will eat anything well.

I've heard good things about Loyal and would give it a try but the closest dealers are 3 hours away.

We have had the best luck with the Black Gold 30/20 in the red bag for puppies. We have never had pups look as good as they do on this stuff. Have always used Puppy Chow prior to this. Switched over when Purina jumped time and jacked their prices way up. Paying less than $25 for the 30/20 Black Gold Puppy Food.

Good luck with them.

Priscilla

The Black Gold Ultimate Puppy will probably be my next choice if he doesnt start eating this. I raised two pups on it once and they done real well but its almost a two hour drive from here to get Black Gold.

I started to get a bag of Diamond Naturals Lamb and Rice Puppy food today at TSC when I bought the Pro Plan. Anyone fed this to pups?

you want find anything that compares to the pro plan peformance for puppies or adult dogs its the best you can get . ive tryied black gold puppie and diamond its ok and they do alright on them but the growth and develpment is better on perormance . cant beat it when your puppie is eating a little at a time and looks good that means hes getting all the nutirents that they need. your feed is working and one that gobbles it all up is not getting the correct nutrients.. thats my experince over the last 32yrs. ive hunted and showed different top winning dogs.. hope this info. helps you but i do recomend the pro plan performance.

Are you just feeding him dry food? I've found with my latest pup, that is a VERY picky eater, mixing a little canned food and water helps get her to eat. Oh and by the way I love the PP Performance, my show/hard hunting dogs eat it and hold up real good. My old senior dog does real good on the Loyal!!!!!!!!!

My uncle feeds exceed and loves it. If I could get it around here I would feed it. He used to feed Pro Plan and Black Gold and says he likes the Exceed the best. I think he gives around 26$ a bag for 44 pounds. All his dogs look great on it and keep weight on even during hard hunting. He feeds it to his pups from 6 weeks old and they do great as well.

Thanks for all the replies. Yesterday evening I mixed a little warm water in a small bowl of food and he ate it pretty good. This morning he had eat about 1 cup of his dry feed without water. He looks good and has all kinds of energy so it seems he's getting plenty of nutrients and energy from his food but I just like to see them eat good.

Dualwalkers you make a good point about him getting plenty nutrients from his feed and this being why he isnt hungry all the time. I'm going to leave him on the Pro Plan for a while as long as he continues to eat it. I have heard nothing but good things about it.
