Ever been bit at a tree? Check this out

Sorry for the bad quality pic was taken off a camera phone in the er late last night. The pic is not of me but a buddy I hunt with.

This is a good reason NOT TO lean over a dog thats treed to pick a leash up. 12 stitches and 3 hours in the E.R. That cut goes way further back on the inside of the mouth. First corn race of the year.

Boy

you are some real brillant folk saying dead dog not knowing if the dog did it by accident or meant to do it. Some dogs are very intense tree dogs and tree so hard you have to watch them around the tree. They can nip you by mistake and never mean to do it and leave a cut like that on you. It is different if they come off the tree and jump up in your face and mean to grab you but when they accidently nip you and never even look at you then it would be kind of crazy to kill a hound over that. It would be your mistake for sticking your face that close to a dogs mouth any way's. I sure hope this was a accident and the dog didn't jump this guy. I hope he gets well soon.

It was an accident, he had a lead on the dog and dropped it. he leaned over the dog and bent down to grab it as the dog just happened to be throwing her head back. The dog didnt "bite" him she just happen to catch his face with her mouth.

My husband got bit during a nite hunt a about 2 months ago.

Our dog was treed an a tree by himself. 2 of the other 3 were also split treed. The 4th dog was running around to them all back and forth. Our tree was the 2nd tree called so after the first tree was scored they moved to this tree. The handler of dog #4 handeled his dog and the tree and hooked him to the tree being scored. My husband was handeling our dog and when he reached to grab our dog the other dog bit him on the upper arm. No broke skin fortunately but had some nice K9 bruise marks the next day and very sore. When he told the handler his dog bit him he basically called my husband a liar telling him he did not bite him. That did not work out to well..... the judge did not want to do anything either.... Oh well, not much you can do I guess. But we knew what happened!!

BIG OUCH!

I'm NO baby... my dad was a cosmetic surgeon and I've seen plenty of wounds, surgeries, I've stitched animals...I've seen 2 sons with big wounds... one was wounds from a BnT.... BUT that picture Still made me cringe! That looks like it HURTS!

I am the first person to say a dog who bites a human UNprovoked should be dead(as is that BnT I talked of earlier). UNprovoked and on purpose... I think in this case the person Leaned Into a Mouth with Sharp teeth-period. I have been bitten that way on the hand...putting my hand in the way. It Happens... I've been injured by horses, cats, even kids that way....LOL...

Dogs that bite on purpose when it's not their Job... need to be put to sleep.

This is an unfortunate accident.... Sorry it happened and hope it heals well for your friend....

Have a good day, Heather

I have seen worse. When I was a boy we had a Irish Wolf Hound, and the paper boy used to play with him. They would wrestle in the front yard together all the time. There wasn't a mean bone in that dogs body. The dog bit clean through the upper lip just like the picture and on down through the bottom lip to his chin. It definately was not pretty, and it left quite a noticeable scar.

I wouldn't be so quick to kill the dog, you really need to see the situation.

I've been bit in the neck, and on the hand. Both times my dog cowered to the ground because it happens in a flash, the dog doesn't mean to do it.

Now I yell his name real loud before putting my hand on his collar and there are no problems.

If a dog means to bite you then by all means they should be put down. If it's an accident, well then it's just an accident.

Hope you heal up quick.

Had one a few years back that nipped me on the hand while reaching out to snap him up at a tree. I just wrote it off as an accident. A couple nights later that raskle brought blood on my wrist. We got in the dirt for about two minutes and alpha dog never got bit again. I won't tolerate a hound biting me or anyone eylse while hunting. If they bite a person there's a good chance they will take a chunk out of anouther dog.

I disagree. My 9 year old dog will nip if you don't talk to him before you hook a lead to him at the tree.I've had him since he was a pup and he's never been in a fight at the tree.

I got knocked out at a tree one night a few years ago like that...

Bent down to grab the lead strap and the dog took a leap at the tree and I was knocked out cold! haha.

Woke up, I dont know how long after the fact, but the dog was standing on my chest treeing! haha. That's what woke me up! LOL

Never been bitten at the tree, so far...BUT, for some reason, that has always been one of my biggest fears. To me just didn't ever look real smart to me to reachin' off in the middle of some coon crazed, chop mouthed hounds. Flingin' slobber 6 foot in all directions at a tree !! Sam and I both always say our dogs names before we reach off in the middle of any of them to pull them off a tree.

Dang, that looks like it hurts like H3LL !!

Getting bit

I got bit by one of my dog's last year at a bear tree.It was thick around the bottom of the tree, all jack fur's.The hunter shot at the bear 3 times and missed it so the bear came down and the dogs couldn't see it once it hit the ground because it was so thick.I went to unsnap my lead dog to get back on the bear.He ran around the tree and I was bent over unhooking another dog and I had dark pant's on .He came around the tree and thought I was the bear and he bit me in the butt.I had quite a story when I got home and my wife asked me how my day went.lol.

You got to watch a intense treedog around the tree not be getting your arms across in front of them or your face near them, they can easly grab you by mistake. I've been bit a few differnt times at trees by my own dog and others, nothing that ever left a mark just me getting my arms in the wrong place.

Scaring a dog at the tree...

I walk up to my dog and lay my hand on his back and call his name when I reach for his collar... He has never bit me or another dog. But if you just walk up behind him while he's in deep tree mode, and grab his collar you might get a nip, He thinks the coons done came down and got his @ss.... Most of the time I have to pull him out of the tree anyway, {CLIMBER}.
