Diamond Naturals Dog Food??

I HAVE BEEN FEEDING THE DIAMOND NATURALS LARGE BREED 60+ FORMULA. I LIKE THE FEED BUT THEIR POOP SMELLS HORRIBLE. HAS ANYONE ELSE RAN INTO THIS PROBLEM WITH ANY OF THE DIAMOND DOG FOOD PRODUCTS. IM JUST TRYING TO FIND A GOOD FEED THAT WILL KEEP THEIR STOOL FIRM AND THE SMELL WAY DOWN. ANY THOUGHTS???
THANK YOU

I have been feeding Diamond Extreme Athlete for a week, I feed what the bag says to feed, and my clean up has went down to hardly none. They seem to go once a day and it is firm and easy to clean up. I really like the diamond naturals feed. Just don't want to over feed it.

I feed NATIVE FEED by Kent. I'm very pleased with it and not near as much goes out the back end. They only seem to go about once a day. Might be kind of loose at first until they get used to it but should clear up after that. They offer 4 levels. Level 1- 24:14, Level 2- 26:16, Level 3- 30:20, Level 4- 35:25 and the Puppy is 30:20. You will notice slicker coats, added muscle, more drive, and less stool.

I dont want to hijack this thread, but I was wondering what the cost of the Native Feeds are.

Btw, I have checked on the price of the Diamond Naturals and for the money they look like one of the better quality feeds available.

Make sure your not feeding too much. I just switched back to Extreme Athlete trying to not to have to feed as much during these colder months. I always liked the Naturals and got away from it because of price, but I think it will work out becuase I was feeding 5-6 cups to keep a couple of my dogs up with these colder months and I have been feeding about 4 with the EA.

I switched to Diamond Extreme Athlete about 4 monts ago and I am pleased. Feed what is recomended and like posted clean up is allmost none. Try it you may like it also. And dogs look good also.

I switched to the Diamond naturals 26/16 chicken and rice formula and the 23/13 60 lb + feed for the older dogs recently,so far cleanup is less than the feed i replaced (Sportmix) and the dogs seem to like it and are doing well on it

I have been feeding the Chicken & Rice formula year round since Diamond began selling it. The dogs do not get overheated in the summer & you can raise pups on it !!! - It is a good all around feed at a reasonable price. No need to switch feeds for the hotter months & very little cleanup.

It all depends on what you want. I don't know how good it is for dogs but it's not too good for me(extra odor, extra messy stools, dogs look no better than most other brands).

Jamie if your gonna switch don't wait for it to be gone. switching straight from one feed to another can be hard on them and cause more of what you just described.

"CoonCaptain" - I'm paying 38.00/bag but like I said I feed alot less of it then I did when I was feeding Diamond. To me it equals out about the same with feeding less and sending in the coupons for the free bags.

Protein and fat content have ZERO to do with a dog overheating.

Loosing weight with blood in stool. That dog has Whip Worms or Giardia. Worm the dogs with some Panacur.

I've had to switch back to Chicken and Rice Naturals, as the food I was feeding went way up in price, and the dogs are doing good.

No. High protein content will not hurt their kidneys unless they already have kidney problems. The 32% protein in EA is probably not even enough protein to bother one that does have kidney problems. Your dog will actually "run cooler" and recover faster on a diet high in protein and fat it the summer.

I know better than to comment on these threads but I don't learn quick.......I feed Diamond Naturals Extreme Athlete to everything except pups year around. The pups get Naturals Small Breed Puppy. I have fed the Chicken and Rice and did not care for it. Native is another feed that is comparable. I liked the level 4. Didn't care for the rest. Enhance Professional Athlete is also very similar. I have not fed it, but have been told by people whose opinions I trust that it is comparable.
There is ton of info on this subject on here. Run a search and check it out. Mike.

In horses , and cows there is roughage and concentrate. Do You want somebody like a nurse to chunk you a pill and tell you that is your daily requirement while your stomack is grumballing? Or vice versa feed you healthy/ rabbit food while your body tells you you are starving?.

I feed Diamond Maintenance. It is reasonable cost and it has done a good job for me for me for about 25 years. But, my dogs have biiiggg pens so I don't have to count turds if you know what I mean. If they get on an Island somewhere and won't come back for a few days and look puny when they do, then I step it up a notch to the burgundy bag. And freechoice them. But that is probably just for my "feelgoodness".

Paying $29.99 for 40#'s. This is my second time feeding it and I think I am gonna stick with this and maybe some other "Naturals" when it gets hot if this gives my dogs any problem.
