Pups still coughing

It has been a week. I started them on Albon, then to Penicillin G procaine and now on Amoxicillin. 2 are seemingly fine, on small coughs here and there. the other 2 are up and moving around and drinking water and the last one is still laying around. but drinking. How long does it take for the coughing to go away? This is their second day of Amoxcillin and I have seen a great improvement in 2 since giving it to them. The first 2 act like they aren't even sick, just a minor cough here and there. This weather has been awful for them. The vet told me he has seen more respiratory infections this year then ever before in puppies.

Lori,

You need to go get some AZITHROMYCIN!! It will knock the cough out in 5 days - you give 1/2cc per 5 pounds once per day. If your vet won't give it to you then call your local DR and tell him whats going on and ask him to call in the prescription for you. I promise this stuff will knock the cough out and you and your pups will be much happier. If it continues it is going to turn into something nasty like pneumonia. Then you got a major problem. Good luck.

Priscilla

Put a call into the vet and asked for it. I know my doctor won't do it, heck I don't even get to talk to my dr. about anything unless I make an appointment with her. If I have to, I'll fake a sinus infection and get it that way.

What dosage is it? The 500 or the 250? I can buy it on-line, just need the dosage amount.

Azithromycin - Make sure you get this NOT Arithrymycin. There is a difference.

30ML when mixed

200mg per 5 ml

1/2 cc per 5 pounds of body weight

Only good for 10 days then you must throw out any unused amount.

I just finally found a site that takes Mastercard and ordered 30 tablets of the 500 mg. I can break it in half and give it that way. Now I have to wait 4 days. God, what a mess!

Lori - you need the suspension for pups. NOT the tablets. You can not accurately dose the pups by weight with tablets. You must give 1/2 cc per 5 pounds plus the tablets can irritate the throat therefore causing MORE coughing. The point is to stop the cough.

Why not just go down to the vet and get some. Then you don't have to wait 4 days and you can get the right stuff. My vet only charges $20/bottle. Seems like it would be worth that as much trouble as you are having with this.
