Trout fishing near Salisbury, NC

Is there anywhere to take a young man (8 yrs old) who loves to fish on a trout fishing adventure in or near Salisbury, Nc? My son is going with us this weekend for the show (he is not into showing like his sister) and he wants to try out some trout fishing. Anyone in that area that can point me in the right direction?

Thanks!!

I am just trying to find something near Salisbury since that is where we will be for the weekend. He rarely travels with us and asked me to take him fishing while we were there. Maybe I can find something else once we arrive that will keep him occupied some.

There are no trout in this area of nc you would have to go to the mountains to fish for trout. but there is some good bass fishin around and catfishing. i love trout fishin too n i go up to the mountains all the time just to fish.

re

a brown , i have never fished that just hiked in and around that area.

been hitting the cane river up a little more this summer, seems that they are hitting harder out of the unstock. they have a resort type thing up there, and they put deer feeders over the water for the trout. its wild

Andy

Are there any pay to fish spots that we can go to after the show Saturday? I am not opposed to driving my little man a few hours north if necessary. We don't have any tackle to trout fish with so our best bet might be a pay to fish spot.

Thanks.

You used to could rent tackle in Pigion forge and Gatlinburg but im not sure if you can do that now, I dont know if they have any trout in Cherokee or not

We have some around here and we are about an hour and a half west of Salisbury. If you are willing to go a little further west of us, that's when you can get into some. Andy is about an hour west of us.

GEEZ! HOW SLOW DO YOU DRIVE??? IT IS NOT 5 HOURS FROM SALISBURY TO HERE. LOL. IF IT WAS WE WOULDNT GO TO SETW DAYS EVERY YEAR! LOL. IT USUALLY TAKES ABOUT 3 HOURS.

WE ARE 1 HOUR WEST OF ASHEVILLE. ASHEVILLE IS 1.5 HOURS WEST OF VALE/SHELBY THAT IS 1 HOUR WEST OF SALISBURY.

IF THEY CAME HERE, THEY'D TAKE 40 WEST, TO 23/74, AND THEN WHEN THEY LEFT THEY COULD HEAD STRAIGHT DOWN 441 HOME. IT'S ALL 4LANE.

AND WE HAVE POLES IF YOU NEED THEM TOO! ALL YOU NEED TO BUY IS A $3 BOX OF NIGHT CRAWLERS!!! OH AND, YOU CAN KEEP UP TO 7 FISH APEICE.

What would you like to know about the Horsepasture? I grew up about 5 miles from it and fished it quite a bit. There are several golf courses on the river and that gets the water temp up and causes some trout to die almost every year.... Of course, one of the golf courses stocks some monster trout in there for their members.

Yep me and old MRC been up and down the Horsepasture a time or two, ain't we cuz LOL...

Unfortunately like MRC alluded to, all the golf course development on the river has really hurt it as a trout stream. Way too warm from all the golf course pond water running in unless you get way up there near Cashiers to get above the development.

On down near where it runs into Lake Jocassee you might pick up some good trout fishing in the spring as they are running up out of the lake, but even down there past all those huge falls and a few small, cooler tributaries, adding a little cooler temp and a lot of oxygen, it is just a shadow of what it used to be....less you want to chase smallmouth or catfish in it.

Boy I still love to get in that country and ramble around....that is BIG country down in that hole in the Earth LOL.

Y'all are giving me the fishing bug!

Yes. Sapphire Valley on down through Sapphire Lakes, Whisper Lake, etc. All full of ponds and lakes with top release spillways dumping bathwater warm water into the river.

Where you fish down there in GA coon dawg? I've never fished down in that neck of the woods but my brothers get down in there on the upper parts of the Chattooga each year and catch some dang nice fish.
