It was bred out of the foxhound like treeing walkers, but not for treeing quarry. It's more for rabbits and foxes from my understanding. Sort of an inbetween of a Foxhound and Beagle. This is all from what I read, not from experience. I've never seen one in person. Just researched em when looking for my first dog.

Websters says..... "A humorous, yet fairly accurate short-hand description of a Harrier is that of "a Beagle on steroids." "

LOL !

They were bred to hunt in packs for hare.

they were bred to be an in between hound somewheres in between the beagle and foxhound mostly for rabits but found a niche for runing deer. shorter legged so they didnt move as fast as a foxhound but yet had stamina for a longer chase.

I owned some Harriers a few years ago, I don't think there's a noticeable difference between them and a beagle other than their size. They're good rabbit and armadillo dogs but don't seem to care for coon.
