get a bag of calf powed from blue seal. and a calf bottel. mix it with hot water. and u should not have a problem. also contact your consivation officer you can get in alot of trubble for keeping a fawn and once you have got your scent on it the mother will not take it back. best of luck

fawn

i hate to disagree with you but the doe will take the fawn back even if it has human scent on it . a man down the road has a deer pen an he handles all the new born fawns an not once has the doe rejected it. i was the man with the fawn i would take it back where his wife found it the doe willl find it.

Goats milk! Or return it to the wild. In PA there is a nice stiff fine for having a fawn without a permit.

ga dawg

where do you get this info that the mother won't take it back once it was touched must have been from and old wife because this is an old wifes tale a deers mother instint is very strong we found one hit by a car with it's leg broke took it to a vet had the leg casted brought it back and put it in a pen and the mother came back and stayed in the pen with it for 3 days we then released the baby and off they went we watched that fawn grow up all summer the cast fell off in about 2 weeks and the fawn is fine here is a fawn that was gone from the mother over 10 hours ,had all kinds of odors on it and the doe took it back

I once saw a Doe Chasing a Bobcat to protect her fawn.
They have a strong mothering instinct.

well everybody has there own thery but i have seen a mother reject a fawn after a human handled it. the fawns stayed in the field it was released in. for two days other deer would come in to the field and not make contact with it. a farmer found it dead in the same field 5 days later

SOUNDS LIKE A WONDERFUL ENDING! MAYBE NATURE TELLS THE MOTHER IF THE FAWN IS SICK AND WILL NOT SURVIVE. I HAVE SEEN MY HOUNDS DO THAT WITH PUPS. THEY PUSH AWAY THE WEAK SO THAT THE STRONG WILL SURVIVE. WHO KNOWS! ATLEAST YOU SAVED THAT ONE.

True Story!!

I have caught 2 different ones, and turned them both back loose. I got one up in the truck and started home with it.....she went crazy when we started moving so I chunked her hind end out the window!! The other one was a little bigger. He didn't have no spots and was caught trying to jump through the fence. Me thinking how great it would be to have a pet buck deer tried to catch him......I got him caught all right!!! I ran down there to him, and without thinking pounced on him.....this is where things went down hill!!

Let me tell you a 40 lbs deer is vicious I MEAN VICIOUS!! They have no remorse when you get them wrestled down to the ground, and will bite, kick, paw, and head-but you!! It never dawned on me that being in the truck by myself what I would do with this thing after I got him caught.

So here I sit on the side of the road with a deer that has beaten me half to death during our wrestling match. I got him pinned down where he can't escape from me.....and THAT is when it came to my attention that I had NO way of containing such a beast. By this time there has been several cars pass by me, and I noticed they all started stopping and watching me.

I bet there was 40 people out there with video cameras recording and taking pictures of the spectacle on the side of the road. So naturally I ask for some help....NOBODY wanted any part of what that dude was dishing out!! They wouldn't even bring me a rope to tie him up with!! So I decide I'm going to have to tuff it out, and tote this thing up to the truck.....BAD MOVE MOJO!!

When you try to pick a deer up they have like an overdrive mode they go into, and they start floping around like a fish out of water with feet flying every which way!! I finally managed to get this thing up in the cab of the truck.....WRONG PLACE FOR A 40 lber!! I got the door shut, and went to go get in the other side of the truck......He had sulled up, and got mad!!!

When I opened the door that thing came out of the truck like his @$$ was on fire right on my head!! He didn't stop after he jumped right on top of me neither!! He kinda stood there for a minute jumping up and down and bleating.....THIS is where I made my next mistake!!

I jumped up and kicked him right in the head!! That thing went totally bezerk after that. I mean he UNLEASHED THE BEAST!! He ran his head into my stomach and knocked all the air out of my lungs putting me on the ground again ( wrong place to be )!! He then proceded to rear up and pound my head with his front feet until I couldn't see or hear what was happening anymore.

When I came to after what seemed like forever he was gone, and I was bleeding from every orifice possible. All the people where standing over me laughing, and giving me a standing ovation!! I learned that day to NEVER NEVER NEVER try and wrestle a deer that don't have no spots and is already over 40 lbs!!! Them dudes will HURT you!! LMAO!!! TRUE STORY I SWEAR!!!! Well maybe some of it is imbellished a little!!

I don't know you, and don't wish any harm on anybody, BUT that's one show I would have like to have seen. lol
I had a similar encounter with my mom's old pet doe. She got out of her pen one afternoon, and was headed down the road. I just grabbed my dog leash and took after her (How hard could it be?). I got the leash snapped onto her collar, and was going to simply lead her back home, it was just about a hundred yards.......45 minutes later, I made it back with her. I just had a few shreds left for clothes, and was bleeding from head to toe.
Altough they look small and frail (harmless, lol), they can be deadly, creatures with razor sharp hoofs, and the know how to use them with lightning fast speed. Wild animals should be left in the wild.
