I have to agree with this, I would have no problem with assauly rifles and full auto guns being banned. As long as common sense is used to hold up after that. Thats were the problem would lie, but if I had to vote on it. I would vote against those 2 types of weapons!

Here's the problem with thinking like this.

"As long as common sense is used to hold up after that."

Common sense has absolutely nothing to do with politics. The term "Assault Rifle" is a buzzword used by the anti-gun lobby. The anti-gunners love to use the term assault rifle followed up by pictures of fully automatic sub-machine guns and other such weapons which are already illegal. This lulls people into thinking that this is what they are after. They are not. These weapons are already subject to extreme legislation. The anti-gun lobby are after all firearms. It is easy for them to villianize a LEGAL semi-automatic because it looks like these other "villianous" weapons when in fact it is a firearm that is not traditional looking but modern, tough and relable. The premise for the anti-gun cause is to target these modern looking legal firearms knowing all to well that if these can be regulated that the legislation will condemn a large portion of other more traditional looking firearms. Once these more traditional firearms are heavily regulated then the it is on to the next segment of firearm to be regulated or be deemed illegal.

For example. An AR-15 is a civilian model of the military's M-16. It looks like an M-16 but is changed so that it is a legal SEMI-AUTOMATIC firearm. Now the reasons these firearms are popular, yet less traditional looking, are that they are extremely reliable, tough and accurate. The reason these are this way is from years of improvement and refinement from both military and private civillian gunsmiths. It is basic evolution of technology from a military application to a civilian one that produces a tool or firearm that is one of the best in the world.

Here's another example. Relate evolution of military technology to the new tracking systems of today. When GPS was first introduced to the civillian population it was made less accurate, on purpose, so that it could not be used in certain types of guidance systems. Since then it has evolved and been improved to the great technology that it is today.

Two years ago you could not buy a used top of the line radio telemetry tracking system for less than $500. Now with the introduction of GPS technology, a product evolved from a military application, just about any used radio telemtry tracker can be bought for 25 percent of what they were new. Look in the classifieds on this board. These ads receive almost no traffic unless the guy is almost giving it away. Why are these systems for sale? Because the seller want to upgrade to the new, better, less tradiditional technology.

So my question to those who support supossed "ASSAULT WEAPON" bans, but not banning of other tradidtional looking firearms do you really think this is possible? Is trying to penalize sombody for using a tool or firearm that is less traditional, more advanced or better technology really something that should be controlled at the expense of your rights as an American?

I say NO leave my guns alone!!!

Sincerely , Dan Reuter

ransom1 and ysudep2

if you two don't like assault rifles or full automatic machineguns just don't spend your money on them.but that does not give either of you or anyone else that matter the right to stop someone who does want one or more of them from owning them.there are a few predator rifles built on the assault rifle platfomr that has become popular with predator hunters as well as some being chambered for big game cartridges coming out if not already out.
are you two really stupid enough to believe if they was banned that would stop the crooks from having them and would stop crime? all a ban would do is punish the law abiding people.but I guess you two and others like you really don't give a rats ass about that though since you think they should be banned.

They have done voted and according to the last Assault weapons ban most calibers and guns we hunt with would have been classified as "assault weapons". Even that little Nylon 66 or Ruger 10/22 would have been ILLEGAL under the new "ban".

Some of you folks need to open your eyes and educate yourself and quit being so gullible.
An Assault weapon to the Democrats include most of the guns in your closet.

Common senSe says to follow the guidelines set forth by our founding fathers and follow the 2nd amendment like it is written.

What part of "shall not be infringed" is so hard to understand.

Proof that common sense is not so common.

These idiots cannot balance a budget. If the budget says you have x amount of money, then COMMON SENSE says you do not spend y amount.

They can't get the simple things right.

To me common sense says they can take Your guns, but they had better leave mine alone.

I have an idea, if you think Gun bans are ok, then THROW YOURS out in the front yard and let em come around and pick them up. I'll keep mine thank you.

Eventually those bans that only take some guns will eventually lead to all guns being taken.

Look at how things started, and they continually take more and more. Eventually sling shots will be outlawed.

I am not out in left field. We'll agree to disagree then I guess.

Things like these guns bans get passed in the guise of doing the regular Joe a favor, protecting him from himself.

You and I are both adults. I do not come to your house and tell you how to run your home, why would I want you at my home telling me how to run mine?

Common sense says, unless you break a law using a weapon, then you are entitled by the 2nd amendment to own that gun. Why do we need to Legislate EVERYTHING?

If I were to say drive too fast in my 2003 Gray Dodge Ram, and run a stop sign, and kill some poor soul, does that mean that every 2003 Gray Dodge Ram should be outlawed? No the person who was irresponsible should be punished, not every person who owns that particular make of vehicle.
