I would like to expand on what someone else posted and try and show that we all look at these hounds differently but if we ever tried to understand where the other person was coming from I think we would all be better off.
I would also like to say in no way am I trying to put down what this person wrote and I would appreciate it if others would have the same respect. We can feel differently about something and maintain a certain amout of respect for each other.

Lynn is right but I say you can turn the table around and that is the same thing people that expect performance from their hounds are saying about people that disregard performance and breed for looks and convience. But there is one major difference.
The difference is that genes for perfromance cannot be seen like the genes that determine color can. You have to raise that dog and work with the dog and then after a period of time you find out the dog does not have the genes it takes to tree coon.
Unfortunally a lot of these dogs just because they look the part are then again used for breeding and that is when the breed is headed downhill to where no one wants it to be. Oh but it gets prettier as it sinks.
A single registered dog has to meet a color standard and a performance standard before it can be registered. While a litter registered dog only has to meet the color standard to be registered. Sure that is where performance titles come in but I would bet you the majority of females used for breeding have no performance titles and if they were tested for performance they would fail. The show people need to support the performance people and vice versa as we are all dog people. I am just trying to open up conversation that may get one or two people to see the other side differently, doen't mean you have to cross over. Just be more understanding on one anothers journey.

if i wanted to breed some show in my go ,id breed a redbone to a walker.lol mebbe i could call them hoosier state redbones lol

you are correct,i am way off to the one side on this subject.i couldnt care less what a dog looked like,performance in the dark is the only thing i care about and i suppose i am a little quick to scoff at people that wouldnt feed a dog if it wasnt good looking.i promise to quit scoffing in public lol

I SAY WE CAN HAVE BOTH. GOOD LOOKING AND GOOD COON HOUND. I DONT WANT A HOUND IF HE DOESNT MEET THE BREED STANDARD. IVE SHOWN AND COMP. HUNTED BOTH. I ENJOY DOING BOTH. I JUST LIKE GOOD PERFORMING AND GOOD LOOKING HOUNDS .

You have to breed for both and if you don't you have to breed for at least show. You have to breed for structure, if you don't breed to the standard then you don't get hounds that could do the job. Who would like to hunt a hound that has hip dysplasia or splayed feet or is cow hocked? Maybe you got lucky and your cow hocked hip dysplasia dog is a real coondog, but whose to say it's offspring will be that lucky? No matter who you are you have to breed to the standard in order to get real coonhounds - that is what the standard was made for. Personally I don't breed and I don't hunt. I don't show even. My coonhounds are PETS! I want to show and breed coonhounds someday, but I don't think I'd ever hunt them, I love my dogs and don't want them murdered by a lion or bear or car, for my own pleasure. My dogs were bred for hunting (Michigan Swamp rooster lines) but they are great pets. There are other ways to test a dogs hunting ability.
