Ok Plott Guys......

I have a 10month old maltese plott male at home. He is bread STAR MT. and JOEBOY/QUEEN crosses. He has seen cage coon and does good on them. I have had bad luck starting other Plott Hounds. Ive lost faith in them. This dog has good blood and brains. Hes never been hunted though. How should I trane him??
U tell me I have had no luck with Plotts maybe this one can be a mind changer.

SUGGESTIONS PLEAZZZZZZZ

If you have lost faith in plotts seems to me you wont give this one a fair chance. You need a little faith in what you are trying to train. If not the odds are stacked against you from the start.

id let coon out of the cage . let him see it run away... hold him till its out of site.. let him go. when hell run and tree one like that take to th woods.. . time in the woods is what it takes. too much caged coon games isnt good.. its a good way to wake them up a little but shouldnt be confused with hunting..

Dave, I don't think I can help much, wish I could, but Plotts are not for everyone. Fortunetly I love Bear hunting and got into Plotts as I wanted to tree bear and big mean walking type bears, and I got into the breed of dog that I beleived would do that for me. Now I've switched bloodlines of Plotts into what I beleive will do the job for me, its a long hard road to train a decent dog that can and will win in either PKC or UKC, especially one that pleases me. I don't hunt no me to automatic strike dog, that covers everything and anything, I want a dog that takes the tracks as them come by themselves and gets treed with a coon.

Our dogs have alot of faults and setbacks like anyones, most people wouldn't have a dog like Anne as she's short, she's black brindle has a mediocre mouth and chops on track and tree. I'm sure if you put your mind and determination to it you can train your young dog.

However if all River Rats blueticks start at 6 months thats probably what I'd be hunting.

Dave, you can beleive this or not it doesn't matter but in my opinion that cast we were in on Thurs at Plott days if Anne would been in that cast it woulda been a whole different deal as she'd made something happen, like getting treed and quick. However I don't ever judge a dog on one or two nights, the Bingo dog I picked up honestly hasn't showed me anything that some of my pups can.

Good luck with your young male Dave but remember you gotta start with something to get somewhere.

THANX

thanx Ray I appriciate it. I think it does have alot to do with the bloodlines. Which Plott line is there that has had stictly coonhounds for the last few generations. Thats what I would like to have. This young plott of mine has a little to much bear blood for my liking. Is Anne gonna be bred soon if so gte me booked.

Dave, it would be unfair for me to judge your hounds bloodlines, if I was you I'd be going to the Sarge bred dogs, Joe boy, Tack or some of the dogs you see winning in UKC and PKC.

Anne just went out of heat and will be bred her next heat cycle, however all are gone if she had 50 pups,LOL, we are only selling a couple and keeping the rest.

Gotta go to a PKC hunt in Chesaning with Anne, talk to ya later.
