WHAT DO YOU MEAN?

SHE WONT LOCK UP LIKE SHE USED TO....AS IN SHE WONT STAY TREED OR WHAT........HAD A FEMALE WITH EARMITES AND IT NEVER AFFECTED HER STAYIN TREED AT ALL....BUT EACH IS DIFFERENT SO WHO KNOWS.......AND WHAT TYPE OF TREE STYLE IS YOUR FEMALE OUT OF RATTLER.......AS IN DOES SHE JACK THE TREE OR IS SHE A STAND ON WOOD TREEDOG OR STAND BACK TYPE??JUST CURIOUS AS TO WHAT SHE WAS LIKE BEFORE SHE QUIT TREEIN OR WHATEVER SHE DID............

AS FOR THE CROSS YOU ARE TALKIN BOUT....ON PAPER IT LOOKS DARN GOOD.......BUT.......AS FOR WHETHER IT WORKS OR NOT DEPENDS ON YOUR DOGS.......THEY ARE BOTH UNPROVEN AND IM SURE AS YOU KNOW NOT ALL DOGS ARE GONNA REPRODUCE LIKE THEY LOOK LIKE THEY SHOULD......BUT YOU NEVER KNOW TILL YOU TRY EM.....SO GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR PUPS......AND HAPPY HUNTIN.....

ok, heres the story on this female....

she was sold at about 7 months, had all the potential in the world, would wind and hammer on coon they had on top shelf in the barn......she got sold, money was supposed to be in the mail when the pup was shippe out.......well, she was about 14 months old, no money, and the ppl who sold her finally decided they had had enough....well there were two ppl in on the deal, there was one guy, and the other was a preacher....the other guy was the main one, but the preacher hunted with the female quite a lot.....my buddy had talked to the preacher off and on for several months, tryin to get hold of the guy that had the female, and the preacher said that she had treed her own coon, had them shot out to her, was makin a dog, etc......and he was a guy my friend trusted....as for the other guy, no one could get hold of him, so my buddy finally just loaded up, drove down to get the dog, he called the guys friend, the preacher, told him he was comin to get the dog, but it took my friend bout a month to get down there.....bout a 10 hour drive, and when they got there, the female was almost dead from bein starved, had earmites BAD, ooze drippin out of her ears.......so we got her back into good health, but she wouldnt tree, she still had ear mites, but I have been gettin them cleared up, first she wouldnt tree at all, then eveyr now and then, now that I am gettin them completely cleared up, she is treein most every time.....she is about 16 months old, been in the woods bout 3 months worth, and there is no tellin what that ole boy that had her did to her.....but thats the story.......now, this was a cross I wasnt gonna make til she proved herself, but my neice plays with my male quite a bit, and one day she cam runnin in, cryin, sayin somethin was wrong with my dogs....I run out, thinkin poison, etc......lol, jean was in the heatpen, and frosty had been turned loose by my neice, and he had climbed in with her,a nd was hung up with her.....oops, oh well......also, ear mites has stopped quite a few dogs from treein......and she wouldnt leave the tree before, she just wouldnt bark up, she woudl bark around at the base of the tree, wouldnt throw that head back.....now she is gettin up on the wood, dont jack much.....but also, when u buy puppies, u buy what the blood is, u dont buy the parents......just my opinion.....on the same note, I wont normally breed a dog that dont suit me.......u dont buy the parents, u buy what the parents are out of, and what blood they have........

Not trying to stir the pot,

Bluestyle... My opinion does not mean much because I am a rookie to this hound thing. Heaven knows I do not know much of anything when it comes to breeding hounds. But from what I understand, you only get the blood from so many generations back. With this being said it looks like this cross should be pretty good. As far as the dogs being proven comp dogs really has nothing to do with the nothing. Granted, if they were proven it would make you some more $$$$. They either will be or won't be coonhounds. However, I believe that the parents play a big role in throwing good pups. From the info I have read and the local houndsmen I have talked to, the dam plays a major role in passing on the gene traits. So I think the dam is an important piece to the puzzle. Just my half a cents worth.

well.....

I may end up keepin all the pups, thats ok too.....it is a cross I think will make it, and if it dont, then no one is out anything but me.....but for me, the male is as close to what I like as anything I have owned, or hunted with, and the female is bout the same, except for her treein, and like I said, that is improvin as I get her ears cleaned up......I will know before them pups are born if she is gonna make it or not......but hey, if I gotta keep them all, thats ok.......but u get dogs that are from top producers, then ur chances are better that the pups will make it......so tell me this.....u take a dog, out of say, the top producing male, and female......in one instance that dog is put in the hands of a good houndsman, is campaigned, night after night, and makes a very very nice hound.....now on the other hand, an old man buys that dog, keeps it in the yard, and just lets it tree a few squirrels......the way yall are makin it sound, and correct me if this is wrong, but the dog would produce much better in the first circumstance than the second......so it isnt the blood that is behind the dog that determines what the dog throws? I may be just totally screwed around in my understanding, but it seems to me that no matter how good a dog is , they have to have a good solid foundation of producing hounds behind them to get much of a chance to produce coondogs.......now, am I just totally confused on what u need, or is it the blood that tells.......now dont get me wrong, I breed coondog to coondog, and be picky bout what coondogs they are, some are gonna throw unpredictable pups, as in diff huntin styles, mouths, etc......but if I had to pick between breeding two dogs that were coondogs, with nothin behind them as far as producers, or two dogs that werent given much of a chance, or were messed up by someone, but were out of proven cross, with top bloodlines, I woudl take the second cross any day..........jmo......

this breeding thing? lol

Hey Matt hope this finds you well. Remember the phone conversation we had a few months back? I told ya a well known breeder once told me "make the cross and see what happens". Well you made it, now in about 6 to 12 months you will know how it worked. Funny how ya just sometimes dont know what is gonna happen. I wish you all the luck with this new adventure and hope you get a world beater from this litter. Let me know if and when you need some blood named after a common hand tool we all use. rofl. Dave

ya I remember, just kinda surprised that ppl think that it is all the dog, that all the effort behind the dog to make the correct crosses have nothin to do with him, or her, or what that dog will produce.....u would think that the dog and the dogs owner is completely responsible for that dogs existing, instead of all the work that went on before that dog, or even that owner......I Like a good solid foundation of coondogs behind whatever I got tied up on the hill, and if I like a dog, I will keep it, and maybe breed it, and if a dog has a manmade fault, such as this female, or just a fault or two period, so what, what dog doesnt? If I decide to breed that dog, it will be on a cross that I think will compensate for it......and like I said, if that is the way ppl feel about pups, then Iwill be happy to keep everyone of these......it aint gonna stop me from tryin a cross, if they are bred right.......jmo

MATT

I THINK YOU MISSED THE WHOLE POINT OF WHAT I WAS TRYIN TO SAY............NEVER ONCE DID I SAY THAT YOU SHOULD NEVER OF MADE THIS CROSS..NOT THAT YOU HAD A CHOICE LOL.......I WAS JUST CURIOUS ON WHAT WAS UP WITH THE FEMALE AS I CAN NEVER LEARN TO MUCH.......AS FAR AS A SOLID FOUNDATION BEHIND A DOG, I BELIEVE THAT IS THE UTMOST OF IMPORTANCE BUT LIKE I SAID BEFORE IF THE DOG AINT A COONDOG IT SHOULDNT BE BRED...NUFF SAID.....REREAD WHAT I TYPED IN ALL MY PREVIOUS POSTS THEN ASK IF I ONCE SAID ANYTHING THAT YOU SAID I DID.......................AND IF YOULL RECALL BACK A FEW MONTHS I TOLD YA IF YOU DID MAKE THAT CROSS I MAY HAVE BEEN INTERESTED IN ONE OF THE PUPS.....GUESS YOU FORGOT THAT AS WELL..............OH WELL GOOD LUCK ANYWAY............

I do not think anyone is betting against you

Matt,
I do not think anyone is betting against your hounds or your cross. I think everyone is in agreement it sounds like a good cross. Sorry if my earlier post offened you, it was not written that way. I would agree with you that good bloodlines make a difference, but the parents have to be included in the mix. From everything you have said it sounds like you have solid hounds. I apologize again if you took my post as criticism.

Mr Cahoy, and Scott..

no offense was taken, just surprise......and I must have misunderstood what u said Mr Cahoy, I apologize if I offended anyone, no offense was made.....and no Mr Cahoy, I do not remember u sayin u might want one, I have slept since then......I agree if a dog just flat out dont make a coondog, there will be no cross made, but no dog is without faults, u gotta breed to compensate, and breed those faults out.......I was lookin forward to makin this cross, just not yet, was gonna try after coon season, that will either make her or not.....but now, lol, oops......but I will pick bloodlines over performance like I said before, cause its not that dog u are breedin for only, its that dogs parents, and grand parents, and great grandparents, beyond that, it dont matter much, unless strong linebreeding is playin a factor......but once again, sorry I took what yall said wrong, been a stressful week, lol......but thanx for the responses..........

Matt,
Like I said earlier, I offered my half cent, because that is all my thoughts on the subject is worth. I have only been doing this for a couple of years and I am learning as I go along. I am always interested in blue dogs because that is what I want to hunt. There are a lot of Walker men in my part of the woods and they are trying to convert me to their ways. I would just soon stay with the blues. Take care and I hope things go well,

Ispectated bullet at ashland ohio and hunted against the joey female at ashland ohio.I have hunted against a male named brush creek buck winning once and losing once. From what I have seen they were all coonhounds that I would be proud to own. Also they were hunted by honest hunters that impressed me.Would not hesitate a bit about these dogs. The most impressive so far was brush creek buck owned by mike blevins,a real dog and a real honest handler, dont mind getting beat by a coondog on the up and up.For the big question who has the next bullet?

i will tell you my prediction after you

answer these 10 ?s about each

!. track style- how much do they open on track?drift or straddle?
2. hunting style alone-do they check back,if not how long does it take for them to get out of pocket.
3.how do they use their mouth on track--open a lot or tight, bawl or chop or both.
4.tree style-do they have a good locate,do they bawl or chop or both,do they chew, jack the tree, tree where the coon went up,stand on the wood or run around the tree while treeing.
5.how old were they when they started running and treeing
6.how are they conformation wise
7.what color are they
8.disposition--shy,friendly,aggressive were they easy to train to lead and load? how do they respond to punishment?
9.would they rather pack up or do they look to get by themselves and split often.
10.are they typical representatives of their family?how many of the above traits are shared with the dogs in their 3 gen. ped. are they similar to their littermates..

accurately assessing your dogs strengths and weaknesses is key. even then there are no guarrantees. where they are similar with each other and with their family it is likely the offspring will be much the same. for example knowing a little about their background i would guess if they both mostly bawl on and run or jack the tree a little that is what you will get.

Town Creek Blue...

no this is not the same female, if u go back and look, not sure if it is still on here, probably not, but was an utchman female, out fo Geronimo, and a daughter to ALbert, i was talking about.....u need to either back up, or just call me a liar, dont straddle the fence.....I asked for honest opinions, and I have no reason to lie about it.......this is a cross I was considering, but not this soon, I was gonna hunt her through season, and then decide......I was gonna breed the geronimo female this time, but I dont want two litters on my hands... I have only had this female that got bred about 3 months, and she is only 17 months old, the other female is 4.5 years old..... so no, it was not the same female....my male and the geronimo female was gonna be my first litter I ever raised, as I am very picky about what I breed.......you can believe what u want, but ppl that know me and my dogs, and my respect for the bluetick breed, and have respect for the bluetick breed as a whole, as well as respect for other hunters, without insinuating they are liars without any facts, are the ones whose opinions matter to me, no offense, but check ur facts first.....have a nice day....

Willscrk...

the track style of my male is he is a nice strike dog, but he waits til he has it straighteded out before he opens his head, he drifts out nice, wont waller around on a track, he opens according to track, I dont like a dog that opens 90 a minute on track, the eight has probably caught him, altogether, every time in the woods, bout 10 times.....he can get alil tight on a bad track, but he moves out well on track....the female is a quick strike dog, drifts out fast, openin according to track, a lil more than my male, but she dont open when she isnt movin.....the male will check in after 45 mins or so if he cant find anything, but he can get under a coon most nights, and he very rarely has to get out of pocket to do it.....the female will check back in about every 30 mins by herself, but with other dogs, she stays out til she gets treed.....she isnt real sure of herself alone yet, aint been huntin a whole lot the last month or so, it is extremely dry here.....the male has a nice tenor bawl mouth on track, and three long locates on tree, then nice bawl on tree, bout 70 a min, the female has a BIG rolling bawl mouth on track, three explosive locates on tree, then about 80 a min on tree, she trees hard....the male stands at the base tree, treein up, and will back up if a dog gets to jackin, or blowin, the female gets up on the wood, and stands....the male dog treed his own at 11 months old, slippin off on the track, takin it from two older good dogs, been huntin him since he was about 7 months.....been runnin and treein since he was 8 months old....the female was a natural from young, but thats only hearsay, but she has no trouble goin huntin, gettin struck up alone or in company....the male is a show champion, with two firsts, and a second, nice well built male, light built, about 50lbs....the female is about 72lbs, she is built very houndy, big boned, lots of muscle, very beautiful female, long bodied, long legged, just very well balanced big female, with a big head and nice ears.....as for color, they are both pale, the male is colored real pale, with two body spots, and a bullet head, and the female is very pale, a lot of body spots, with a nice black head, with a big blaze......they are both good dispositions, with the male, i dont have to carry a lead, he is very smart, he loads himself as soon as I cut him off the chain,a nd when I get in from huntin, he waits at his dog house, the female is a lil more wound up, she aint been messed with much, as until I knew she was bred, wasnt sure i was gonna keep her, but they are both smart, and she is improving on lead, etc.....the male only needs a scolding or a light switch if he gets in trouble, which aint happened in a while, the female can take a whippin, they both want to please....the male will pack, or if the dogs are goofin off, he will slip off on his own and tree his own, he likes to tree alone, but has no prob packin, the female is a lil more independent, but will pack as well.....frosty, the male, is a nice representative of bullet, his daddy...the gyp is a lot like frosty, only bigger mouth, bigger dog, with a lil harder head, a lil harder hunter.....but they both please me, and if I have to keep all the pups, thats fine with me.....frosty is the nicest, balanced hound thats been on this place, and the female is makin one, at the end of coonseason, she will be, I believe....but as I said before, I was gonna breed strictly cause I want a couple pups, and I want o see how my male will produce.....so if thats wrong, get on me......

sounds to me

like you may have some pups to be proud of! the way you describe them they compliment each other.bullet was from a litter of coondogs and the bullet x honeyrun becky cross the female is out of was the same. on top of that the rattler dog is a product of the same type cross bullet x turkey creek mandy(full sister to becky if i remember right) linebreeding on the bullet x jetv females should work as it seems to be the most successfull and consistant cross made on him.

Blue Style...Let me make myself clear.............If I wanted to call you a LIAR, I would of. Now with that said.............Its hard talking with my foot in my mouth,,,,,,,,so let me first remove that...............OK DONE!!!!! I apologize to you for that last post. You are correct!!!! It was the other female. I had you confused with a ghost. I again apologize for my remark about the accidental breeding. But you have to admit...............you read on here all the time where they "accidentally" bred their dog. I am sorry for the remark made Matt! Later...........................TCB
