Young dogs & leaves on trees???

When hunting a young dog alone this time of year. How do you know if they are treeing coons and if they are accurate when they tree? Just hate to be encouraging a dog & not knowing exactly what they are doing.

I wouldn't blow the squaller alot untill I knew the coon was there. The squaller fires a dog up more than anything so if the dog is lieing no need to fire them up. I'll usually look a few mins and if I don't see anything go on.

That is why I like having my older dog along with because I can tell by the way he his treeing if there is a coon there or not. Last night he locked down and blew the top out of the tree and after just a few seconds I found Mr. Ringtail.

But hunting a young dog this time of year does present a probem, I usually do like Hobo and look a min maybe blow the squaller a second and then move on, not scolding or praising.

Same as any other time of the year, try to find the coon ... if I see him I praise them if I don't then I move on

Thanks for the advice. I've only had the dog about 5 months & he's only treed 1 slick tail that I know of, so I'll keep assuming they are coons if I can't find them. When he treed the slick tail, there was a noticeable difference because he didn't tree as hard as usual.
