Need comformation on what I seen last night

I decided to take the dog out Thursday night about 9pm to an area of fields and fence rows that butts up against the Eastside of SGL 176 (Scotia Range). The dog starts working a cold track for about 1/2 hour or so close to the marsh, so I decide to let him stay on it and work it out. All of a sudden out of Nowhere I hear a horrific scream as shrill as it can be in the upper field. My first instinct is it is a bobcat, but where it is coming from is about 300-400 yard from a development and only a few hundred yards from a main road. Now deep in the SGL there are bobcats and bear but that is rough and has alot of cover. So anyways getting back to my experience, about 5 minutes later across the path comes an animal about 75 yds out, stops, looks at us, screams again, takes off across a field heading to the woods. So I figure okay it is over, dog is still on track heading the other way, so no problem. Another 5- 10 minutes go by and it screams again. Is this common bobcat behavior? I couldn't find tracks where it crossed and I couldn't hit the spot light in time to see the actual body. It was definitely a mature one, because the eyes were high off the ground, as if it was a tall animal. I am sticking with the bobcat therory, but what do you all think?

The game commission introduced Black Mountain Lions. A friend thought he lost his mind about a year ago when he heard the hounds carrying on and went out back and saw one in a tree by his shed. He called the game commission and they denied everything about them. The past Fall he was trying to pattern a big buck and had the trail cams out (on video). He caught a video of it. You got it. The game commission denied it again. So, Julian sent his video to Channel 11. Now western Pa. knows all about it. They were once indiginous to this area and we all know how the game commission likes to "reintroduce"........just like coyotes....that they denied for years.

Randy,

C'mon.....

I saw the video, unless all the trees in that area are 60", that was a housecat.

There are usually lots of 'sightings' here in PA. That is, until the snow comes on. This winter we had snow on the ground for months, and the reports of tracks were non-existant.

Sound like a typical "government" employee to me. I'll take you right to the spot on the corner of Fairview School Road and Houk Road that it was taken at.

Yep it was either a BobCat, or a Couger.
They will both do that at times. It will suprise you how big a Bobcat can get.

you

know a gray fox can make the hair on your neck stand up too if you get close to her den... They also sound off like that... I'd say cat but don't rule out a grey fox......

Plenty of bobcats around the state. I've seen a few.

Randy, I'd love to go to the spot. I am familiar with the area.
While I am in natural resource management, and I do incorporate the wildlife aspect into it, I don't have anything to gain or loose by them being here.

Kind of like the Black Bear spottings in S.W.Mo....last year.Conservation Dept. said "No way" untill the local paper and t.v. station got pics and videos...then they remembered relocating a mama Bear and two cubs...

....or several years ago my ex-wife worked as a secertary for the Conservation Dept....i found a Badger dead on the the road, called the wife and told her....she told one of the Agents...he said "No way....where". I went back an hour later and it was gone.....i had already taken a picture..

could have been a Bigfoot, there have been plenty of them spotted here in PA too.... http://www.pabigfootsociety.com/

here are some from Beaver Co: Randy, these sound like places you hunt alot....

Beaver County Sightings
August 2004, near Bradys Run Park: While letting her dog out for the night, a woman observes a monkey like face watching her from the treeline behind her home. Also hears unusual vocalizations around property.

September 2004, near Bradys Run Park: Man witnesses tall hair covered creature running through wooded area behind his home.

October 2004, near Pennsylvania Turnpike: While driving on Route 60, a woman witnesses three tall hair covered creatures walking across a field and into a wooded area. Woman describes different three creatures are different sizes.

Raccoon State Park: October 9 2002 at 10pm: Two witnesses were camping and as they were sitting around the fire they heard the rustling of leaves, and then saw red eyes outlined with green staring at them. The creature was standing behind a four foot log. No odor was smelled. The next morning the one witness went to where the creature had stood, and from what he estimated the creature stood around 8 foot tall and possibly weighed around 700 pounds. There were no footprints found but they did notice this same morning that two softball size stones had been placed on their picnic table.

Hopewell Township: October 23, 2002 at approx 1 to 1:30am: Some witnesses saw a creature that was possibly a bigfoot along a creek in Hopewell Township. courtesy www.paresearchers.com website

December 2001 at 7:37pm: Monaca near Rochester PA: The witness saw a big, ugly, hairy, tall, dark colored creature. The creature smelled real bad and walked in a long stride. It weighed around 500 pounds.

Summer 1973: New Sewickley Township: This information came from a newspaper article. A sighting of a large hairy, gorilla-like creature with glowing red eyes was reported to the police. The police found 18" footprints in the area. Submitted by: Paul Johnson/Stan Gordon. courtesy www.paresearchers.com website

August 27, 1973: Beaver County: Two girls observed a white 8 foot tall hairy creature with red eyes, carrying a luminescent sphere in its hand. The girls told their father, who went into the woods after the figure. He returned in a daze. The investigators talked to him in 1978 and reported that the event had a profound psychological effect on him. Submitted by: Paul Johnson/Stan Gordon. courtesy www.paresearchers.com

November 1973: Industry: A newspaper article reported that A large, hairy creature with glowing green eyes was reported to the police. Submitted by: Paul Johnson/Stan Gordon courtesy www.paresearchers.com website

Brady's Run Park: April 1962: 7:30am: As the witness was fishing, about 30 to 40 feet away from him stood what he first thought was a very large bear. He then realized that this creature was too massive for a bear, as it stood around 6 foot tall and possibly weighed around 300 pounds. The creature had light brown hair. It just raised its arms and slipped back into the forest. courtesy www.paresearchers.com website

i run a yote & hound hunting website and have ton of guys from all over pa & ny on it. we`re out almost everyday running yotes with snow on the ground and no person, none, nobody has ever cut a track. we hear the same stories here in ny. too, unless mt.lions migrate like geese they are not in these 2 states. i do know what a lion track looks like, i ran them when i lived in utah. i bet it was either a gray fox or bobcat as stated before.

Here we go again... lol
There is no such thing as a black panther..... only melanistic cougars (a genteic trait that makes them appear black, but they are actually just dark and spotted) that occurs about 1 in five hundred trillion mountain lions. google it

To me it is a panther....(Black Color) they let a similar scream as the Mountain Lion/Cougar/yellow panther. Makes since cause they called it a black moutain lion..... here in east texas panthers(black) are as common as bobcats. they let out a blood curdling scream that sounds like those crazy ladies on a horror show..... the cougar/mountain lion/yellow panther began to travel thru this area in late 74....i saw one the summer of 74 cross the road in front of my pickup around midnite..its crossed to county road in one leap.... 6 months later we found it tracks thru a deer plot.... since then they have been seen quite often......i saw one cross the road mid day about a year ago. about 20 miles from were i saw my first cougar..... they have a wide range they travel.....so im sure a panther can travel on there on and move just like any animal competing for food.... the panther are usualy spotted early morning feedin hay fields and near dusk.... there screams are very unforgettable.......
