LOL... I can get within a few feet of him. He must have been one of the babies who came with the females as a youngster. The younger males obviously were NOT brought around at chicken feeding time.... That big boy would be SO easy to shoot...LOL... he's very lucky we've never turkey hunted(yet....) LOL... This fall we may try to get a thanksgiving bird BUT... not on our property... would be SO unfair to go for these birds... WOuld be like walking out and shooting one of our chickens...

We have a HUGE turkey pop. here! Have perfect lands left for THEM luckily with a couple of nice Orchards. Our friends own one of the only working farms left around town and they have some nice protected wetlands too right across the St. Part of what attracted me to my little farm in 1985. Too bad the Orchard behind us is now...a development of fine homes in the making....

Heather

We are VERY fortunate and sure do know it! Seeing Boston and Providence creep further and further into the suburbs... is a heart breaker to anyone who loves nature....

Figured it was last years...even though you are in a WARMER climate...LOL...

I love to see the little ones... can't STAND to see them all try to cross the road but.... seeing the females protect and herd them is awesome. Last year I remember someone was outside talking about how sweet the babies looked as they were watching them eat some seed on the ground... and then...LOL... a little sparrow or some little one flew in and... the baby turkeys killed it... and ate it.... Life on a farm and with nature...... LOL... we warn people about the blood thirsty chickens and they NEVER believe us till they see... I guess this turkey incident was a shocker...

My son got chased by a big tom the other day down at the park. I never laughed so hard in my life. I kept telling him to stay away from the flock but he wouldn't listen to me.

Those are some awesome pics. I'm snaggin' 'em for backgrounds.

Keep 'em comin'!!!

My friends uncle broke his long years ago when a BIG old tame white Tom chased him and knocked him over! I always tell people around here(where the turkeys are TOO tame for their own good...) To walk towards them Boldly and loudly waving their arms to scare them away... and not to hand feed them etc...(of course I am an idiot who gets too close) I've seen the big males chase off the younger Big toms knowing some day that will change. This yr I saw a turkey sparring for the first time though! 2 older males fought them selves VERY bloody... I was surprised despite having all my roosters and having seen them duke it out pretty good from time to time.... Good thing the turkeys dont have 3" spurs like some of my roosters! I WOULD be running from them then!
