Question... Help?

Just raised my first litter of puppys and I have 2 questions.

First question is , 3 of my puppys have a small knot on the belly , a Hernia i guess. Is there anything I can do for this or should I do anything for it. Will it go away on its own?

second question. Two of the pups have dew claws. what is the best age to cut them off and is there any trouble in doing that?

Thanks you.

i just snip the dew claws off with scissors at 3 days and put back in with moma to clean up the hernia's should disappear by the time they are weaning age or so

I know if you don't get the dew claws early, you will catch he!! with it when they get older! They will chew off anything you try to put on them to protect them.

Good luck to you!!!!! PICS would be nice!

what is this about cutting off the dew claws? I have never cut any of mine and have had no problems that I know of.

I have had them removed for two reasons:

1. Not in standard for some breeds in show
2. They can be "ripped" off during hunting and cause the dog a great deal of pain and bleeding.

Some breed standards over look them.
It's just a choice. Not an issue.
