Gillispie out at UK

What do ya think of this decision? I think its a good decision but they better already have a replacment in line to take his place.Uk should have never hired him in the first place. This time i belive we will get who we want.

I have heard talk of Donovan at FL. They tried getting him the first time around and he wouldn't leave. I bet with these last two seasons not making the tourney with Florida he is ready to get out of there.

Donovan has already issued a statement saying he is fully committed to the University of Florida and has no interest in the Kentucky or any other job.

I dont have a clue who we will get but I dont think they have anyone lined up based on the press conference I just watched. I think its going to be a week or two or longer and will end up being either Travis Ford or somebody we havent heard mentioned. Myself I dont really want Ford but in our current situation we might no be able to be to choosy.

If they can lure Billy Donovan back home how great would that be? Pitino and Donovan in the same state. Move over Duke-Carolina!!!!!

I think this is the most dumba@$ decision UK has ever made. I know he didnt have a good season but its only been two. A high school team will beat UK if the keep having 20-22 turnovers a game. Billy G didnt throw the ball away, those Tubby Smith scrubs did. He brought Patterson in (that could play for any team in the country), He has sign 2 outstanding players. A point guard and a center and there is suppose to be another forward red shirt that eats Patterson up every practice. I dont really see how they get rid of someone that has the potential of taking Kentucky back to Sweet 16 or final four next year. He has done this in 2 years, going on 3. The almighty Rick Pitino took what like 8 years to build a program at UofL. But not one person said anything about getting him out. And UK let Tubby Smith come in and take Rickys team and win a National Championship and then let him destroy the program for the next 8 or 9 years by recruiting junk. I know there saying its his attitude toward the press but you can fix things like that. There are fines and other things that can be done to straighten that out but you cant fix a stupid mistake made by our Wonderful UofK. And i dont blame Donavon for not coming back to UK, he wanted the job when Tubby Smith got and the just booted him out of the way so if you screw him why would he want to come back. Just my thinking!!!!!!!!!!!

What do you expect him to say... "pick me, pick me!"

Donovan will be the next coach. It was said that Donovan and his wife checked into the Griffin Gate ( a hotel in Lexington) late Thursday night.

I think you will see things come out in the following days that will make you completely change your mind about what you just said. some of the things the players are saying about how Billy treated them. I wont write them here but PM me and I'll go into more detail if you want to know more. Gillispie was not fired for on court performance. It was how he treated the players and other people associated with the program.

My wish list is not very long.Pitno it will cost us about 10 million
the 1st yr.3.5 million a yr after that.Ford i like his style he
recurits shooters but he has only won 1 ncaa tourney game
so i dont know if thats enough to get him here.
ky ranks 4 in revenue earned so it was time Billy G left
that was the 1st time uk had fired a coach.

cat fans dont feel to sorry for Bill G he just hit the lottery
6.5 million buy out and he wouldnt even sign a contract.

You can say what you want about Kentucky firing Gillispie but bottom is anybody would get fired for doing some of the things he did. If he had come back next year we were going to have around 5 or 6 transfers plus Jodie would have left to the NBA. This is not rumor or speculation this is straight from the players mouths. I have heard people bash these players all year long for the way they have played but now that I know some of the stuff that was going on behind the scenes I think these players should be applauded for playing as hard as they did for this University.

Most of you probably dont realize that at halftime of the Notre Dame game Gillispie got into it with Jodie and told him he was the most selfish player he had ever coached and all but blamed him for the way the game was going. He went so far as to tell Jodie he was no longer a member of the team and told one of the assistants to stay in the locker room and make sure Jodie did not come out for the second half. The assistants calmed Billy down outside the locker room and Jodie was allowed to return to the court and play.

A similar incident happened during the SEC tournament. Darius Miller fell and hit his head during a practice and asked to be taken off the court for a few minutes and Gillispie refused and called him a P***y and told him to grow up. Gillispie continued to verbally abuse Darius on the team bus back to the hotel up unto the point that Gillispie had the bus driver pull the bus over and told Darius to get off and walk back to the hotel. Some of the other players stepped in and told Gillispie that if he made Darius get off the bus they were getting off too. The assistants again stepped in and talked Gillispie down and the bus then continued to the hotel.

This was the norm for his behavior and this type of thing happened almost weekly during this year. With all the protest from the players and thier parents as well as university officials Mitch and Lee Todd had no choice but to let him go.

Guys couldnt you see Leigons telling the general he wouldnt
go back in the game or how about Stewart quitting after a
game and letting the team vote on whether he came back or
not.i disagree with you Virgil you must have never played
sports growing up kids or exposed to this at a very young age.

Whos gonna fix it ??

If you want to see someone come back and fix the program then give Pat Riley a call . He's probably got about 3-4 years left in him before he completely retires and thats about how long its going to take before the program will be ready to hand over to the likes of Travis Ford or Pelphry.
Right now is not the time for Ford. With the condition of this program Ford would be eaten alive by the overwhelming responsibility of fixing the mess. They need an experienced general of the game that is bigger than the problems they have, to come in for a few years.

I'm pretty confident that Billy won't get anywhere near the 6 million dollars that someone mentioned . The 6 million dollar buy out figure was part of a contract that was NEVER signed . Billy has been working on a year to year basis with NO contract . My thoughts are that he will get probably about 2 million in severence, which is about what he was getting as a yearly salary.

As for Billy's treatment of the players .....I had breakfast this morning with a large contributor from the Alumi Association who told me that he had been very dissapointed with a few things that he had heard about Billy's respect for the players, the other coaches, the media , and the University itself .
He wouldn't go into detail but said it was best that the man was gone.

I played sports for years and even played baseball at the college level. I am not making this stuff up. Everything I have said is 100% true and accurate. If this stuff isnt true then why was Meeks quoted in a newspaper article this morning saying that UK made the right decision. He was gone if Gillispie came back. You ever think there might be any reasons for those players acting like they did towards the coach. If you dont believe me go to www.kentuckysportsradio.com and read what is being reported about the relationships between coach and his players. Look at the time it was posted and you will see that I posted my statement on this board hours before that was posted. You may disagree with me but you cant say I am lying, these are the reasons Gillispie was fired.

I dont see how anyone could say that Jodie Meeks was going to go pro. He is not even a top 70 draft pick. He would have had to stay another year. I think he might have said this but he couldnt have meant it. Im not saying he is not a good ball player, what im saying is he cant play under the pressure of holding a ball team on his shoulders. When South C. shut him down he folded the rest of the season. He would still have is points in the game he just had loads of turnovers. I really dont know whats going on in Lex but i do know that if Billy G recruits stay, along with meeks and patterson anyone could coach them. Its the same situation that Tubby walked into. Come in with a championship team and you win championships. I just hope if they stay that Kentucky fans give the respect where its deserved and not with a new coach.
