I have hunted in plenty of hunts and i have drawn some hounds that babble , but untill this weekend i can honestly say that i could put up with it, now before i speak my mind there is a minute rule and you have untill that minute to let them do what they will but when you strike in before that minute you need hit upside your head and so does your hound, I hunted in kentucky all weekend , Ill give you an example when the judge said get the hounds by the collar and recast, as soon as the judge and the other handler snapped there lead strap the dog started opening , and the first two drops never shut up until they were under a tree, now i know you can not get them for babling in those two cases but the third drop the timber went straight ahead about fifty yards , and then i would say a wide open pasture about 600 yards until the next timber started , now we casted the hounds and same story Same two dogs started opening as soon as they heard the snap and they were struck in before the minute as soon as the hounds hit the open pasture they shut up and did not open until they hit the timber six hundred yards away, now in my opinion if a hound is every breath on track in the timber he better really burn that coon up across open pasture, i am tired of babblers and i am even tired of listeneing to guys try and say they are honest strike dogs get rid of them and if i draw ya and you have a babbler i am going to try like heck to minus ya

did you happen to ask them how they got them to bark off the lead all nite. most of the babbling dogs ive seen were females for some reason. were the ones you hunted with females?

Yeah, yeah, you know those woods were full of coon...they have a little different smell than what your dog is used to. If your dog could have smelled them he'd have been running track too LOL

Most handlers want you to believe there babbler has struck a track that yours can't smell. The sorry thing is, they get started believing it themselves. They wouldn't know what to do with an honest hound.

UKC needs a rule that says you CANNOT complain about babblers, mention babblers or even speak the word "babbler" unless:

1- You have judged a cast and minused a dog for babbling or,
2-You have, as a member of the cast, ask the judge for a cast vote on minusing a dog for babbling.

I don't care if you are the only one on the cast with an honest mouth dog....no excuses.....minus them, ask for the vote to minus or don't say a word about it ever again. jmo.

Well I'm in then because I have minused them for babbling and I have asked for a vote.

It's not hard to get them when there is only one.

If there is 2 though forget it you won't ever get the votes.

It's not an excuse, it's the truth, I said I have done it. I have minused and I have asked for the vote both.

I know, I am from an area that is endemic for babblers. Now close to 80 percent or more of the casts have at least one babbler on them and over half have 2. (back home, here it's not as bad)

When you are not the judge and ask for a babbling call or vote then it ends up being a 2/2 vote.

If there are 3, well you do the math, it's 3/1 vote.

Like I said, it's not hard to follow through with it if there is only one. He'll be pissed off, but you can minus one.

It's a different story with 2 or more. Doesn't mean you don't try, but you ain't usually gonna get as far.

Elvis, your post is gone but I agree 1000%, unfortunately in many areas it's much harder to find people that don't hunt babblers than it used to be before they started that minute crap.

would you call a dog that muoths for the first 15 or 20 seconds out of excitment then settles in shuts up and goes huntting real good a babbler. if so i have a babbler guess i should cull him.lol lol lol.

I have one I guarantee you nothing will make babble. Her sire will absolutley make dogs that normally don't babble do it & there wasn't a babble in her mother either, but if running a cold one my young dog's a little tight & yes she absolutley is a cold nosed dog that will get it lined out while some are beating & bawling on the same track. I can also promise that on a blistering hot track across a pasture feild she absolutley will not say a word until she hits the woods on the other side. She will for sure open in corn feilds, but just not pasture feilds. Why is it some wont open pasture feilds & some will??? When she does this she will open in front & tree first 90% of the time or end up split with it in short order. I definitley don't mind the extreme accuracy(of course not) but wish she'd open more in some cases. If coon are moving good she'll get her part of first strikes too.

I absolutley can't stand a babbler & will for sure break one from it. Of course for the most part the dogs that were very bad babblers i've seen lacked a little intelligence in my opinion & also lacked tracking ability & were slick treeing meetooing idiots. No i didn't say all babblers were idiots. A lot of dogs bark once or twice when something breaks faster. Especially if their a very competitive dog. I was talking about very hyper babbling idiots that will run dogs all the way if their behind.

i HATE babblers. i got in a cast of 4 dogs, the lil female barked from the time she was unsnapped till the time he pulled her off the tree..... he only got me 1 time on strike tho, the time he beat me on strike we cut loose in a woods with NO COON so mine and the other 2 didnt open, well his did so he beat me. i still won my cast lol

Jim i did make the call and i can assure you that i will step up and minus a dog , if need be here is the problem 1. it takes twenty five dollars to question the call and i only had two dollars to my name and to these guys were no joe smo at a hunt they were top guys with great hounds or so some would say, ill give you the cast jim

Before my last post gets mis understood about the dogs in the cast i would like to say that alcohol is a coon dog and will be tough to beat in the near future Al is a class act and a great friend , hope to see you again, ,


the reason i post this is because alcohol deserved the cast win, and he would have got it if the other two were minused

I don't like one opening off the lead but I really don't like the one that never shuts up. I have not had one for very long that never shuts up. I have a Gr Nt female now that opens off the lead when dogs are breaking hard and more so with anouther one that opens. She'll tree more coon alone than with dogs with no babble . I call her a pack nut. She'll wait on pups and drag them around treeing coon and never babbles. Like lots of hounds, it's the competition and being pushed that cause them to babble. I have one that will not babble and enjoy the quiet until coon scent is traveling up his nose. For the most part the babbler is so common that some accept it as normal. I would not get rid of one for opening off the lead a bark or five, if there good enough. Yes I do try to break them and yes there broke if you hang a E collar on them.

If you ever get a 99% honest hound that is dead broke you will notice the short coming of the rest of the pack.

I won't get on here and tell someone they need to get rid of there babbling idiot. If that's the type of dog they like so be it. I have hunted with good hunters that will swear there dog runner has opened up a creek for a mile on a good track that blue can't smell. I normally set them up a couple times before they realize what is taking place. Some never admit it but they know and I know. If you see them jerking around with an accidental kick to old spot now and then, they have if figured out.

I remember the first time I seen some one reach down and scoop a hand full of sand. I watched very closely to see what he was doing. Just before the handler cut the dog loose, he filled the dog's mouth with sand. That dog didn't bark for a 100 yards, but it wasn't long before he was struck. That was a long time ago.

Fact of the matter, if people can cheat they will find a way. As far as I am concerned, UKC is not the babbling police, if we want to eliminate it then we need to do as Jim suggest ... let's clean up our own ranks.
