young dog and coons

Yall think it hurts a young dog to not shoot any coons out to him. I have a young dog and hes had a few shot out to him but now the season has gone out and im tryin to finish him out. I was just wonderin if petn em up real good is enough or what. I dont want him to quit lockin down on his trees because I cant shoot the coons out to him because hes the best dog we have at 11 months old.

Just depends on the dog. Some need 'em knocked out and some don't.

Well i'm no pro by any means but my theory is if you plan on hunting these dogs year round i would not knock alot of coons down during the season unless your a hide hunter and put them up for the off season.I usually hunt with a buddy or 2 and we knock 1 or 2 down a week to a couple of dogs(during the season) and they seem fine. I only hunt up till the middle of May so my dogs still seem ok.But we do have a few outlaws around here that kill all summer long just trying to MAKE that hound. I just don't think they need every coon and unless you have tons of spots your only hurting yourself.I like when these few guys guide casts out and come in with O points or den tree's all night, when i guide to my spots if we have coondogs in the cast we usually score on 3 or 4 coons.
