Consumer report

I was wondering if the Coonhound Bloodlines magazine has ever had any consumer reports on different types and brands of hunting supplies in the magazine? My suggestion is that if it does not, that it would be a great idea to have people (hunters) to field test such products as hunting lights, tracking systems, tracking collars, coon squalls, hip waders, etc. and have the ratings of the products and their (hunters) personal opinions about the certain products. I believe this would help others in making decisions about purchasing hunting equipment in the future.

What do you think??????????

Steve Fielder used to do product reviews when he was with UKC. I can't remember seeing any since Steve went with another registry but it is entirely possible there has been some. I would like for them to do a review on my coonhunting, rabbit hunting, and squirrel hunting video tapes. All of the dogs in the tapes are UKC registered.

Bloodline does give reviews on products that are advertised in their book. How many people remember the Quantro tracker?

Samhain

I think I got you figured out. To you everything evolves around money. You hunt PKC cause there's money to be made. You don't believe in showing dogs in UKC cause there's no money in it. You believe every motive every person or company has is driven only by money. You believe every dog that doesn't hunt for you should be killed cause there is no money in it for you. There are other motives beside money Sam.

Product reviews can be done tastefully without offending companies. As far as I know UKC lets legit companies advertise in Bloodlines to give the customer a choice. Sure it pays the bills, but not everything is driven by the mighty buck, or at least I hope not.

If PKC is so great and UKC is not, then why not stay off this board and hang with the pack on Prohound site!

products and crooks

I personally believe that there will allways be crooks in the world. I dont feel it would be right to exterminate them because some of them could change one day and be good people before they die. THe trick is learning how to shop around and taking time to check stuff out before you pay the money. Talk to people about there past experiences with folks. Some stuff is good for some things and just dont work good for other things. Kinda like one legged men are not for butt - kicking contests but would be great for some other things. Kinda like chevrolet pickups are maybe nice for looking at or maybe setting stuff on the hood for yard sales or something, but as far as cranking them up and driving very far they usually just cant cut the mustard. Kinda like walcurs are great for dog fights or listening to a good deer race or looking at 12 slick trees in one night. But when it comes to actually treeing a coon there usually not cut out for the job. That dont mean there good for nothing though. Maybe you like to run deer with dogs, or maybe your like some competition hunters out there and you just go to the woods to see if your dog can whup the stew out of another mans dog, or maybe you like looking at slick trees all night. Oh well, to each his own. DIfferent strokes for different folks.

Doug Robinson...What is it with you???

Do you jump all over everyone like this?? Apparently so.

What did Samhain post to get you so agrivated?? I see no mention of PKC or UKC in his post....

It must be great to be able to figure a person out by reading 2 sentances on a message board.

We currently have a policy of not doing product reviews because they were abused in the past. It does seem to be popular request however and one that we talk about resurrecting from time to time.

Seems like anyone could do a review right here and post it. It would be better than anything you could put in a magazine because on here you can carry on a back and forth conversation about it. Unless UKC would have a problem with that, I don't know why they would. Many of the product reviews you read in mags are written by people who never used that type of product before and prolly never will again, their main qualification for testing it is a lit degree and a job writing. Many on here could do better than them.

I could be wrong

But if Bloodlines did a "bad" review of a companies product, that company could decide to drop the advertising dollars. The Consumer Reports magazine that's on newstands is supposed to be advertiser and sponser free,so they're supposed to give a unbiased opinion.I don't think that could be said if a company advertised in their magazine. You're right about money,i'm obsessed with it...lol...My friends tell me i'm like the banker character (Drysdale) on the old Beverly Hillbilly's show.I was just testing the show waters, didn't mean to get you so riled.

I agree, I think the most reliable product reviews are done by coonhunters talking on this board and elsewhere, informally.

Magazines should have better material to publish.

Kind of on a tangent..... the Army and Marine Corps were testing some new boots out to become standard issue..... the Marines have to buy theirs and $80 is quite a bit for a lad that makes $600 a month. The testers had a bunch of office clerks and members of the band wear them and took these hard chargers on a couple of 6 mile hikes. These people loved the boots so the military said good lets get them....... then they gave them to the infantry. The grunts said you want me to buy these piece of crap, and take them to the field? Some of them lads put their boots on on Monday morning and might get to take them off the following Monday. Eventually the fancy boots were relagated to spit and polish and ready for inspection and the infantry went back to the $40 boots ....... if they would have asked the ground pounders first the office clerks wouldn't have gotten the fancy boots to wear LOL.

Josh

I do not attack people on this board. If you have read past replys guys like you and Sam and others get on here and do what you claim is "stir the pot". It's just a nice name for causing people to get upset by making negative remarks toward people and their dogs or beliefs. It gets me a little riled cause there are a lot of great ideas discussed then someone has to jump in and make an off the wall statement that isn't even relative to the subject. The people who get upset do so because they are discussing topics close to their heart, and looking for people to inform or support them. Stuff that is negative, sarcastic, down right mean at times.
Like telling a kid that just gets his first hound if it doesn't perform up to par then off to the bone yard. It's a lot of stuff like that that just isn't done in good taste or consideration of the previous writer. Look how many great info exchanges, history about dogs, medical questions, pup training, event sharing, congratulating show and hunt success' are discussed.
Like I said to you before, thousands of peopel read these posts and kids read them too. Perhaps I as being a little harsh on Sam,
but based on several other posts and the fact he was making some blunt comments, I felt his main objective was all about the money in it. So please don't come on here and use the FREE UKC message board and knock UKC. Question it, make suggestions, be a gentleman about it, but you don't bite the hand that feeds you.
Josh it is like the smart remark you made to me and John Carroll, he chose to tastefully tell you online what he thought of it, I chose to address it off line. Thinks about it, and lets get back to discussing some real good stuff.

Well...I dont recall making any negative remarks, But I guess thats a matter of opinion. Just having a little fun, some may not see it that way, but I do.

I got a pretty good laugh out of John Carrol's reply....Im sure he knows I was kidding, and he threw one right back at me.

Good luck on your quest to "right" all the "wrongs" on this message board.....I will be here also, having fun as usual.
