Re: Got 1 treed in the cold tonight

After walking out on the back deck about 5 times to check the weather after it got dark my wife finally said "just go hunting you're driving me nuts". Who can argue with that .
Well I loaded up Sally and went to the woods. It was just as clear as could be, no wind and almost 10 degrees out. I cut Sally loose she took off up the hollow right away. I leaned against a fence post for about 25 minutes when I heard Sally open up WAY up the hollow. She barked on the ground 4 or 5 times and then shut up. After about 5 minutes of silence I heard 3 long drawn out locates and she started to chop up the hollow a ways farther then she was before. I grabbed my gun and started to hike through the snow to her. The snow was miserable. It had a crust on it that I kept breaking through and it was almost up to my knees. After about 20 minutes of walking I figured out why she was so hard to hear. Sally was treed on the other side of the landowner's house just off his house yard. When I finally got up there he was standing next to the tree smiling at me. He said "I figured you would be coming by, nobody else would be out wondering around the woods on a night like this". I looked up the tree and sure enough Sally had a coon. The landowner said you're going to shoot it aren't you? So I knocked it down to her and all was well. Then the landowner asked where I was parked and I told him. He said that was over 3/4 of a mile hike up that valley. He then walked over to his truck started it up and said lets go get your truck. What a deal. When we got back to the farm I shot the breeze with him for probably another 1/2 hour. I guess he must have been as stir crazy as I was.
Here's a pic of Sally and the coon after I knocked it out to her.
Good Job Dan, if they have'nt already, the coons got to be rutting soon. We've been snowed in since the third week of November, so I completely understand your "stir craziness". Good lookin hound by the way. Now all you need to get is a Garmin, and you would have saved yourself some walking in that snow.
