My local media article
Feel free to use any portions of this that you can apply to your own situations if this will help y'all get started.
This has gone out to our Shelby County media, but the AR situation applies nationwide.
Last year those of us with farm animals, poultry, dogs and agriculture operations formed The Shelby County Sporting Dog and Agriculture Alliance (SCSDAA) to deal with a group admitting an affiliation with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). Documented actions and activities of that group were alarming. We were able to cause them to cease their activities in Shelby County. But they had a large treasury and just because they left that meeting in defeat does not mean they have permanently gone away.
Texas needs "Animal welfare, not animal 'rights'
and, yes, there is a difference."
Representative John Fritchey is sponsoring HB 198, a bill that would regulate dog breeders by limiting the number of dogs they can own and requiring licensing for anyone who maintains three or more females (even if they are not bred) "for the purpose of the sale of their offspring." The bill would also mandate unannounced inspections, fingerprinting, and require breeders to pay an unspecified license fee.
Texas Humane Legislation Network (THLN) has announced they are working with HSUS to get a similar bill passed at the Texas State Legislature this session. .
The Responsible Pet Owners Alliance (RPOA), with headquarters in San Antonio has been formed to combat radical Animal Rights (AR) legislation. They are an umbrella organization composed of many non profit clubs and rescue groups, veterinarians, vet technicians, dog trainers, groomers, boarding kennels, pet sitters, breeders, and “John Q. Pet Owners.” They network with all breed registries and national animal welfare organizations to combat bad legislation. RPOA states “The extremists (HSUS, PETA, Texas Humane Legislation Network (THLN)) are united in their goal to end ALL use of animals for any reason. We must be united under the RPOA umbrella to preserve our historic relationship with animals.” The AR plan is to take Texas city by city.
Many of our pet problems (especially pertaining to dogs and cats) are the result of irresponsible pet owners. Allowing dogs and cats to roam and breed freely is not responsible pet ownership. Those who control, contain and properly care for their pets are being persecuted because of the few who fail to take proper responsibility for their animals. And this situation allows the radical AR groups to successfully gain control of ALL pet ownership.
The President of HSUS is a former Vice President of People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), a radical AR group with a mission to eliminate ALL animal ownership – yes, that includes every puppy and kitten, horse, cow and chicken. The HSUS President has stated the organization’s goal is to remove all egg, dairy, meat, fish and poultry products from American menus. AR groups have sued the egg, beef and poultry industries, constantly introducing bills that would make animal products too expensive, impossible or complicated to produce. A tax on each cow owned by farmers and ranchers was recently proposed by legislators for nationwide implementation. The well funded AR people support their SELECTED LEGISLATORS so that any use of animals for companionship or food can be aggressively erased.
ASPCA, Best Friends Animal Society and PETA also have Texas representatives who work with THLN and HSUS.
These AR groups are successfully and progressively making pet ownership more difficult and even impossible because pet owners are “asleep at the wheel.”
RPOA reports that THLN also says they will oppose any effort to amend the current civil seizure statute to give the animal owner an appeal process, which RPOA would support.
Presently, many guaranteed constitutional American rights have been trampled by AR groups nationwide because the AR groups are well funded and using aggressive, often unconstitutional tactics. (HSUS has assets of more then $200 million). Individuals have been destroyed and traumatized by the AR “jack boot” invasions of their property, reputations and lives because they are not financially able, brave enough or knowledgeable enough about the law to protect their constitutional rights and to fight the AR invasions.
THLN is planning an expansion into nine districts (like terrorist cells) and they are using procedures resembling Obama’s for recruiting and “growing” these cell districts as they plan their HSUS sponsored Animal Rights (AR) attacks.
RPOA can be a strong voice for everyone involved with animals and agriculture. But participation and financial support are vital for Texas to remain free from radical AR legislation. Go to the RPOA website for additional information. This is a non-profit organization. Offer RPOA any special talents you have.
