Bench Show Question - What's Worse?

What is worse for a bench show dog - knuckled over in the wrist or behind 90 degree angle in the pastern?

I would consider it similar to horses - over in the knee or behind in the knee. The angles are different for each, each has an impact on shock absorption. But I have seen both occur in dogs, just wondering which is worse.

I'm not a technical person and really haven't a clue as to which is worst for the dogs get up and go, which should really be the point of the question. However since you asked about on the bench I'd have to say whichever is the most obvious in appearance will cost you the show. Some things jump out at you and others aren't apparent to everybody.

Thanks Dale. I was just curious on how this particular issue is judged/viewed by a bench show judge and appreciate your feedback. I hope to obtain my judge license sometime in the future and this was a question I've always had. You don't see either very much in the larger bench shows, but some of the local ones I've been to have dogs with 'odd' front legs and joint angles.

When judging

Remember to look at the WHOLE dog for balance, proportion and adherence to the breed standard. Someimes too much attention is paid to one small but obvious fault instead of considering how well the total dog is put together for FUNCTIONALITY.

personally i would say the 90 on the pasterns. I saw a young dog like this one time. I swear if it had been a horse it would have been put down, would have NEVER carried any weight.

BUT i agree totally with Skyblu. You have to keep the written standard in mind as well as how the overall dog is put together.
Also remember that when judging diff breeds at the same time you are NOT judging them AGINST eachother. It is the one that best fits ITS PARTICULAR STANDARD.
